Actually it wasn't just some of the comments on YouTube which were ridiculous; some of the comments in this very thread on this very forum were as well.
I completely understand any artist deciding not to be a part of this sort of thing.
I also think there's a shocking lack of empathy, understanding as well as something like delusions of grandeur on the part of some of those making comments.

They ripped up Billies Bounce! That was a cherry on top. I also really enjoyed Bill Wurtzel's rhythm guitar and all the quotes he put in his solos. Not to throw shade at Mike Jackson, he was great too. That was a good one.

After watching a bunch of the Birdland Guitar Night, Smalls Live stream, and other live stuff, I've noticed that the best one is actually Emmet's Place. He has less guitar players than Frank, but the playing is higher caliber overall. The video is better and the audio is better. I think Emmet's Place the best live series right now.

I wouldn't put the quality as higher than Guitar Night, but there is undoubtedly more variety in instrumentation. The quality of the audio and video are excellent on both. The quality of the Smalls/Mezzrow streams is so low that I don't even bother to watch it, regardless of who is playing.

Well I just like it better. I can't really debate you about what is "definable" I mean it's art so everyone gets an opinion and no one is wrong.
I would not say the playing at Birdland is "as good as it gets." To me it's pro level, very good, maybe in the 90th percentile. But there are guitar player clams in most shows, Frank is a bit inconsistent in his tone and playing, and the rhythm section guys are decent but not superstars. I'll take the Emmet rhythm section over those guys any day of the week. I think it's just a higher bar for a player to get on at Emmet's Place. For example, we all love Jimmy Bruno (me included) but he's losing a bit of his chops with age. He would not punch a ticket at Emmet's but Frank will put him on all the time because he is a historical figure at this point and still one of the best guitar players around. I also sense there's just a higher degree of focus and excitement at Emmet's for some reason, not sure why.
I know I'm splitting hairs and I'm a harsh critic, but go watch a few of them back to back and tell me what you think.
