Yes. Even studied a bit with him.

He's a brilliant player with his own sound on guitar. Also, a brilliant composer with his own take on harmony, which he can, somehow, get a guitar to play.

Played with Pat Metheny who was featured on an early release of his. Beautiful player.

Of course! Great player…. There’s a live in Korea album somewhere (title?) that is lovely playing… supposed to have influenced Metheny’s writing and playing when he lived in Brazil… not sure which came first, but for certain one influenced the other.

Was a huge influence on Metheny's stuff, I believe. Toninho's awesome.

Prato Feito might be the tune to check out first to hear Toninho's harmonic ideas.

Aquelas Coisas Todas is another -- and the opening chordal lick is featured in Nelson Faria's book, Brazilian Guitar Styles.

This isn't what he usually plays, but it might give the classic jazz player an idea of what he does:

Another small point -- he doesn't always play nylon. He also plays a Strat type, possibly a Suhr.
