I've never heard this album mentioned in this forum before but it's a classic - "The Ballad Artistry of Buddy Tate". Recorded in Canada in 1981, it features the Ed Bickert Trio - Ed, Don Thompson and Terry Clarke - with Buddy Tate as guest.

Typically when we talk about the great Ed Bickert records, we mention "At The Garden Party", "Live at the Senator" or "Pure Desmond", and while those are indeed great records, The Ballad Artisty of Buddy Tate flies below the radar. Ed and the trio are in great form here. Well worth a listen.

I know there's a lot of love for Ed on this forum so I wanted to pass along this gem.

The Buddy Tate album makes me wish that Norman Granz had gotten Bickert into the studio with Zoot Sims in the late 70s or early 80s for a similar quartet session.
