A LONG way from Focus yodeling.

Then again, one of my all time faves from him.

He could always play, but I still miss the yodeling!

With the Philip Catherine thread, this is two mentions of Focus on the jg.be in one day.

Great, let’s make it three, here’s Akkerman with Focus showing he could play a decent classical guitar tremolo as well.

I've had this album for 30+ years, back when you bought some vinyl and hoped for the best. Fusion, some great, some meh.

Yea, that is odd to say the least. I haven't thought about Focus for decades.

As for Catherine; He also played lead-guitar on a tour with Genesis.

well, don't forget that was singer/organist Thijs Van Leer doing the yodeling, but I get it
I always thought Akerrman was an excellent player, you could tell he was influenced by jazz.
I wouldn't mind hearing what he can do in a straight ahead jazz non gypsy jazz setting.

I saw Jan in concert about 7 years ago in Kendal, UK. He covered a lot of bases - old Focus tunes, some more modern fusion, some rock and of course some jazz - but not of the Gypsy variety. Impressive technique and musicality but also entertaining !

Yea, I believe I confused Stuermer with Catherine. I.e. it was Stuermer that I saw playing with Genesis.

    Thanks
