Nowadays, many jazz musicians are nerds so tend to ignore that stuff - not all of them though. But presentation is important. We work in performance.

I'm never happy about 'dressing up' for the gig, but I can see it's value. Your dress should match the situation you are playing in. Some guys dress quite modern, but well (if they are playing contemporary stuff) others wear sharp suits. Some (not very commonly) have their own look completely.
