I found this video of Jim playing with the Jimmy Giuffre 3 on a TV broadcast, he starts playing some chords with his thumb in a way sort of reminiscent of Wes around 1:01 in. Interesting because it’s still 2-3 years before Wes changed the jazz guitar world. Obviously other people were playing quick passages like that with their thumb, but like Eddie Van Halen and tapping, nobody had done it the way Wes did. Anyway, cool to see some early video of Jim. He was probably 26 or 27 here.

Wow, Jim Hall with some hair. And the original pickup and fingerboard on his ES-175. Already his phrasing is different from other guitarists of the time, and his tone has developed.
And nothing before or after the Jimmy Giuffre Three sounded like this (including Jimmy). This was a unique combo in all its iterations.

It's a famous piece from the "Jazz on a Summer's day" opening titles. (Only Jim Hall's headstock in the video.)
