The trio thread is fantastic. Thanks, everyone! There are way more recommendations than I expected, and plenty of albums I have not heard before. Can we do the same thing for solo jazz guitar albums?

There was a very nice Jack Grassel solo guitar album named (IIRK) "Guitar Smoke". I've got it (same for all the suggestions I've posted in the Trio thread) but all my CDs and records (and stereo player) are currently in closed boxes, so I can't go through them to check... but I know I have more (both Trios and solos). I think Bill Frisell and Joe Diorio did solo albums, aswell...

I've got a John Stowell solo album (mostly with nylon strings), I'm trying to remember the album title...

Larry Coryell's album Private Concert is solo jazz guitar at it's finest.

I had the privilege of studying with Joe just a little at GIT in 1983. A truly beautiful player. Howard Roberts told us in a seminar one day that he thought Joe Diorio was every bit the player Joe Pass was. (Joe Pass also came in to do seminars from time to time for the best students--which definitely did not include me, lol.) But I agreed with Howard. Joe Diorio's album To Jobim With Love is not a solo effort, but is absolutely exquisite.

Peter Leitch's 2007 solo album 'Self Portrait'. It's not on streaming services but is still available on CD. It's a very special album. When I played it for Peter Bernstein, he was knocked out by it and bought his own copy when he got home.

This thread and the "trios" one need to be stickied to the top of the forum; they are great resources.

    Hi Rick5

there's an old thread dedicated to Jim's solo playing, with other suggestions, here:

Did Jim Hall ever record totally solo?

Jim Hall's Dedications & Inspirations album is solo (with some creative double-tracking), e.g.
