KB is underrepresented in my record collection. I should rectify that. He is always an elegant, tasteful player. I always think of him as having the classic archtop jazz guitar tone, so when he uses an flattop he sounds great but I am momentarily startled. Looks like he has flatwounds on it.

Thanks for sharing! He’s my favourite. Doesn’t play too many notes, song comes first, always melodic, incredible tone.

The older I get, the more I dig KB (he is my third favorite jazz guitarist behind WM and JP). Kenny doesn't play a lot of note, but he plays the right ones, always peppered with a good dose of the blues.

When I was much younger I suffered under the bizarre delusion that Kenny had just ordinary chops, nothing special. Then one night I saw him with his trio in a small club in North Beach, San Francisco in... around 1976, I think. There were not more than a dozen people in the club that night (a week night), including the waitresses and me.
I was permanently cured of that mistaken belief that night, it was abundantly clear that he had no difficulty executing whatever musical idea occurred to him, his playing was phenomenal.

It was just some small dive in North Beach, not sure why Kenny was playing there, maybe he was in town for another gig so added it.
I did see quite a few artists at Keystone though: Pat Martino, Jim Hall, et. al. It was a great club.

As did I, lots of other fans and famous and not-as-famous musicians. Tons of controversy around it, including the university publicly saying that he was still on his full salary and health insurance while on a sabbatical, neighbors describing a bizarre situation, his kids saying they were prevented from seeing him, etc. Impossible to sort out and AFAIK it never did. The whole things was really weird. I hope he's OK, he is a treasure and arguably one of the most elegant jazz musicians ever. Originally Posted by Stringswinger

The faculty and health care thing is what I wondering about, because after hearing that I was wondering if he really needed a gofundme. And the stories about his wife being at the center of all the controversy made it seem like he had nothing to do w any of it. I was happy to donate because of all the great music he's brought us just like I was to help Pat Martino and others, but can't say I'd be thrilled being scammed into contributing. It's hard not to be suspicious about the Go-Fund-Me page because the story is so extreme, it's like, let's write a story in which everything bad you can think of happens to someone: physical accident, big medical bills, identity theft, threatened foreclosure, etc., it's almost inconceivable that such a series of events could occur at one time.

I just hope that he's o.k. and someone is looking out for him, the Go-Fund-Me page does not make one feel confident about that.
