Love the story about Miles and the dishwasher!

Mike comes across as a super nice guy, I really like him.

He also makes some very insightful comments about Miles, which were interesting.

Stern is the best. So humble and accommodating. I watch about everything I can find of him. I've never heard him speak ill of anyone. He's so complimentary of all players. Such positive vibes.

Great interview. I finally found out what "neesh" means.

    Great Guy and player
I like the way he sees ‘setbacks’

    even with the nerve problems
he’s had associated with the fall ….
he’s got his picking back together
so can play what he hears

he picks way better than I ever will ,
and i don’t have any nerve damage
    at all !

it shows that the music comes from
    the inside ….

I think Mike is probably the "best hang" I've ever seen interviewed, by anyone. Every interview I've ever seen he's a just a humble, cool cat who is genuinely interested in talking to you. The real deal, authentic. Sincere.

Stern is great. I have just paid 10 bucks to download his latest album, "Echoes And Other Songs", from Bandcamp. Looking forward to it. I am glad to pay Mr. Stern directly for his work, rather than listening on Youtube or wherever.

I got that from Bandcamp, too. It's a really good album.

If you haven't heard it, there is also one with the Harvie S Trio, which was basically a pickup gig at a bar with a drummer they hadn't played with before. The tunes are like being strapped down to a rocketship. Mike and the drummer just locked in and Harvey laid down a great foundation. Our own jimmy blue note did the recording of the gig. The tapes apparently sat in a drawer or something for years. It is Mike at some of his most blazing finest playing. Ideas that go on and on, building and accelerating. The album is called "Going For It."

Every time Mike comes up in discussions, I always say how much I admire the joy that he radiates when he plays. But also in the interviews. I am sure he has been through some hard and dark times in his life, but he is quite resilient and doesn't seem to take it for granted.

By the way, his wife Leni Stern is also a remarkable guitarist in a very different vein from Mike. They both attended Berklee with Bill Frisell, who introduced them.

The new album is really enjoyable - recommend anyone to download it on Bandcamp. Favorite tracks for me are Stuff Happens, Where's Leo, and Could Be. Could Be kind of sounds a derivative of 'Epistrophy' to me..

Mike seems like a really cool and laid back hang, which is peculiarly at odds with his playing style.

Mike has great pocket. So it doesn’t seem at odds to me.

You have to be really cool and laid back to play energetically and relentlessly.
