I've been listening to George Barnes for years (I like the old school stuff)... I didn't know he ever did anything like this.

I am a fan of his also. Great blues and swing player. This was a new discovery also. George Barnes was a talented person. He could play anything in any genre.

I’ve always liked his playing, especially w/ Kress, Braff, but this very nice, too. Thank you.

Always an interesting player--technically adept, musical, and often funny. I return often to the Braff-Barnes Quartet albums (especially the one backing Tony Bennett) and his duets with Bucky Pizzarelli. But almost anything he was part of is worth a listen. His daughter maintains a website devoted to his work--https://georgebarneslegacy.com/--with a lot of interesting background material.

You can hear George Barnes influence in Hank Garland’s, Joe Maphis’, and Grant Green’s playing. The music and tones in this video clip, along with anything that has Wes Montgomery’s or Django Reinhardt’s playing , are what I envision when I listen to or think about jazz. This is the sound I fell in love with, this is jazz. Good medicine.
