    Hey all, hope you’re well!

    Just wanted to share a recent set I’ve uploaded to YouTube in its entirety.

    It’s a recent at Mezzrow Jazz Club in New York with Rick Rosato and Jimmy MacBride two brilliant players.

    It’s tough for me to feel good about a show but this one def felt very special. It might hit a little more on the straight ahead vein but I think the playing is very contemporary.

    Check it out if you feel so inclined, and I hope you enjoy it. Set 2 coming soon!

    An NYC pro checking in, cool. I watch the Mez cam all the time. Playing sounds good, both you and the rhythm section. Nice and balanced. I like the 1st one, Sweet and lovely.

    I have to admit, I would find it disconcerting to have the audience sitting basically right next to the high hat and 3 feet in front of me.

    I hear you, it’s close quarters but honestly, it’s how it sounds best. Not too high a ceiling, acoustic properties of the instruments come through, played old big theaters and damn… not fun.

    I have played (not jazz but rock and singer-songwriter) gigs from very small places up to large festivals and I love the intensity of a small place. Much easier to catch the attention of the listeners (although with our rock band we were able to rock large crowds as well).

    oh thanks so much! Are you Brazilian too?
    yeah! It’s not as bright as it sounds on the recording although i am trying to go for a clear unmuffled sound but still fat. Think grant green, Peter Bernstein and Jesse van ruller (on Murphys law).

    I think it’s easy to go low end heavy on the guitar in jazz. Mid range is more where it’s at for me.

    No I just know some Brazilians LOL.

    Midrange is where the ear is most sensitive. It is always very revealing to hear e.g. Peter Bernstein playing with Pasquale Grasso (though the latter is of course a great player with stupendous technical ability).

    Man, the older I get the more I admire Berns. His time feel, articulation, intention, motivic development, everything he plays honors the tune.

    he’s deadly.

    it’s funny how things change, for the longest time, Kurt Rosenwinkel was my guiding light, after getting older though you realize you got find your own thing.

    Still love Kurt, but I just the love the sound of the guitar. Will still throw some delay in there sometimes though! Hahah
