I mostly buy strings via the magic of the internet. I don't have to go through the traffic to listen to wanna-be shredders, and i don't have to pay taxes on the strings. i visit a music store once in awhile, but rarely.

Or check out jazz strumming -- not common, but mighty powerful. Scope how Jack Wilkins strums behind the bass solo at 5:30 and especially the guitar/trombone duo at 6:44

There is a tremendous amount one can learn from this piece generally, about topics including "swinging at different intensity levels," "separating intensity from volume" and "arranging for a jazz quartet." And of course, "Graduate-Level Ass-Kicking Swing 501."
