been jonesin on this track by james browns mainman -bobby byrd..track produced by jb..and you can hear him come in singin by the songs end...

love the flatwound thunk of repetitive guitar figure on right channel

funk is a sum of the parts...each part doesnt have to be too intricate, but its all gotta weave together...

all the great funksters did that...james brown, fela kuti, mulatu astatke, funky meters, etc etc

    cheers

brothers johnson hit with this tune was tite

but nothin beats the original shuggie otis version... replete with his (then, quite bold) echoey guitar solo....he was a teenage phenom!

shuggie was the son of the great west coast musical powerhouse that was johnny otis..(wiki johnny otis, if you don't believe me)...huge force in the music biz..he was union leader in L.A. at it's '60's best!!

    shuggie otis- strawberry letter #23

    Listening to Darondo this weekend:

An under appreciated artist for sure. Sadly, no longer with us, but his recordings are some of the best of their era. Not sure, but I think he might have played the Pops Staple-Style guitar parts as well.

In his brief career, Darondo only released three 7-inch singles
