Saw this last night. Directed by Ethan Coen and produced by among others Mick Jagger. Released in 2022.
Very entertaining, and quite illuminating. You get a real glimpse of the man who “didn’t just play rock n roll, he WAS rock n roll.”
Along with a lot of footage I’d never seen of Jerry Lee singing gospel with Little Richard and performing with his cousin Mickey Gillis. And playing a decent Pops Staple-style guitar.
There are very few showmen like that, even among the history of rock’s great performers. Jerry Lee had a singular talent both as a pianist and a singer. And what a presence. Only Elvis could have compared to him back in the day, but JL had more talent than Elvis and kept that raw edge for decades.
Let’s face it, Jerry Lee was THE KING of rock n roll. He’ll tell you so himself, and he ain’t lyin’.
