OK I have been listening to a lot of funky stuff recently, and this came to mind after listening to Herbie Hancock's Chameleon. Best funk intro ever in my book.
Other possibility:
(Had to throw this in there)
And of course:
This is just off the top of my head.
Any other candidates for funkiest song intro ever?

I vote for "Just Kissed My Baby" by The Meters.
-
This was great too, very guitar riffy.
-
This still works too

(I started to add "One Nation Under A Groove" by Funkadellic but the intro is like two bars long before the vocal starts. Great, great record nonetheless.)

Another short intro but this kills

Old Rascals little known tune. My favorite funk guitar lick. I was in a band that used to play this song. Buzzy Feiten!

Those are all great choices! I'm feeling pretty funky right now...
And how could I ever forget this one?
Or this one?

This belongs on this list. I wore this 45 out as a kid.
That album cover brings back memories---I had that. I miss albums.

This is pretty funky too.

All rock guitarists of a certain age remember this one....

This should be fun.

I've been stressed for a variety of reasons recently (some work and family issues--not JUST the election), and nothing takes your mind off your problems like this music.
While I know we all appreciate the funk guitar and the horns, what really makes a funk intro is the slinky bass and drums. Without it, there's no funk.
I would venture to say funk pushes the intro more than any other genre. It sucks you into the groove right away, and then never let's go.
Here's a couple more from my youth:
I have one word for Chaka Khan--wow...
And this gem from the under appreciated Joe Tex:

For What It's Worth funk? Hm. Weird. I guess in a round about way. Even
Though it's kind of bluesy I never thought of any part of it being funky. But yeah. Cool.

Just to prove that funk didn't die after the 1980s.....
