Happy Friday Funkateers!

Thank you guys for all these good links !
Here is mine for today.
Earth Wind & Fire - Magic Mind (Live in Japan 1979).

Takes me back just a bit. I hear a lot in that term, Funk. People that come to my mind is obviously George Clinton and the whole Parliment/Funkadelic empire, Bootsie Collins, and less obvious- George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Lenny White, Tower of Power. That's just the crust of my funk. Turn your ear on to a bit of *my* funk. Trying to stay true.
and a little of this............

From my hometown,
-
One of my students asked to learn this today. Sometimes I love my job!

This is funny. I knocked myself out learning this on bass in E or drop D or something way back when. The song wasn't happening in C. Turns out it's keyboard, not bass.

Back when TV was worth watching David Sanborn's Night Music show. The house band was killer Omar Hakim, Marcus Miller, Hiram Bullock.

Give it up!

Simple Song was released in May, '69.
Band of Gypsies in December.
I dunno...

Semi-Hollow or Hollow with buckers or P90s into a black faced Fender. Wah optional.
Strat in positions two or four also works.

Nice guitar work, and then the Doctor climbs under his organ about 9:50 to do the bass solo with his hands on the bass pedals...

Johnny Guitar Watson puttin' it down!

Hi,
It's been a long time!
Funkadelic - Smokey

What could be more fun than an all female Japanese big band called Funky Panty?

Hi,
Joyce Williams - The First Thing I Do In The Morning

Some funky tunes we quickly recorded in the rehearsal room, as a short demo.
We kept the solos deliberately short, to not bore the venue-owners the demo is intented for
(which are not jazz-stages). The last one even has some yells! (We really had fun playing these ;-)

A classic from the Meters circa 1975, "They All Ask'd For You." (Why they use an apostrophe in the title is beyond me. I would have suggested they just spell it "Axed" for you, but no one asked me....)
Lot of tourist-y footage of New Orleans. As it's going on ten years since I left there, I enjoy that too.

Funk is.......strange.
But I like it..

Another New Orleans band I've been back into lately. Yamagishi is always deep in the pocket. Great rhythm chops!

Nice chops!

Hey Man, Glad you dig. We love those Grant Green/Lou Donaldson vibes, kinda where this band started. On the record I borrowed an Xotic Robotalk 2, a great pedal, i mainly used the right Channel of the 2. The rest was an Ernie Ball wah, which I've since retired...but then i'm always changing wah pedals, i mean, i got a serious problem. I think my dream board would just have 15 wah pedals on it..

Nice bonus track off of Lettuce's last release.

Grant Green's son Jr and the most passionate vibes-player I've ever seen!

Guts - Man Funk

Found this old recording of my group's saxplayer, when he was still touring with Ronald Shannon Jackson's Free Funk Society. It's not really my cup of tea, but it has a cool solo of Vernon Reid on banjo!
And another one as a bonus (again not really my cup of tea...)
-
End this week with some down home Funk with Derwin "Big D" Perkins on guitar.
