Bass guitar or double bass ? What do you prefer here ?

I played trad jazz on an electric for about 20 years. It didn't look right so I changed to DB! I haven't done much bass work recently but when I do I use my Fender Jazz. It's so much easier.

Personally I really love the bass guitar and more if it has a 5th string, about the double bass even if it seems to be difficult, you can play it while your eyes are closed because it's got a body, a bass guitar is just a neck even if it's easier, it's easy to get lost and I sometimes don't play the right notes above C when I am sight playing because I don't look at the neck, it doesn't really happen on double bass.

On these two recordings, I preferred the bass guitar.

The tone of the acoustic bass was a little too trebly or growly for me.

For the music I usually play I tend to prefer the electric, except for swing and ballads with a really proficient acoustic player.

Both, mic from the camera and piezo plugged directly into the soundcard.
It's a blended sound that's why there is a kind of natural reverb or echo, I don't think it's really well synchronised, kind of echo, chorus, reverb effect.

Those piezos need to be matched with an ultra high frequency input to retain the bass frequencies. At least 10 Megaohms.

On a big bass amp it sounds "good", a lot of bottom ends.
Acoustically it sounds like this.

Blended with the piezo and some compression (no amp), it sounds like that...

Bob Cranshaw played a lot of jazz with Sonny Rollins on bass guitar.

I saw him twice with Sonny Rollins. It was great and I didn't miss the double bass. Jerome Harris was on guitar. I always liked him too but he's never recorded a lot.

Of the two I prefer the electric. The double bass actually sounds electrified to me, so I might like it more if it had more of an acoustic sound. One of the cool things about the double bass is that it's ampitude envelope is shorter than the electric bass. Similar to how an archop guitar has less sustain but more attack than a solid body electric.
