In my experience the ES-175 is a remarkably versatile tone machine. Good enough for Jimmy Nolen, Joe Pass, and Steve Howe; good enough for me. :cool:

Another contemporary player using a Gibson L5 don't know if CES or WesMo is Roni Ben-Hur.
But they where yesterday at that point in time. Nobody wanted them and they didn't sell. It was until July '66 when the Beano Album hit the record stores that things changed
Stripped and re-equipped with Gibson parts - frets, pups, electronics per Paul Reed Smith to me in '86. The grand piano-shaped brass sustain block under the bridge was retained.
Eric Gale of the 1970s band Stuff. Probably more R&B than Rock, but he did play with a heavy gain, sometimes overdriven sound using a L5 and 400. Also took the pickup covers off at one time.
I think they were still making the Les Paul SG though during that time period.

I just mark the bridge posn with a sharpie and / or temporarily tape the bridge to the top with low tack decorators tape Its only on there for an hour or so
