I love this tune. I used to accompany a friend on clarinet on it before he passed away. The Duke Robillard version that the OP links to is really nice.
Here’s my attempt on solo guitar. I’ve been doing a lot more gardening than practicing lately, so it’s rough. I’ll try to work on finger mechanics and clean it up.
It's been awhile since i last logged in here, but there's a strange synchronicity in that i was just playing
'If I Had You' a couple of days ago, and here it is as this month's standard...
and so, off to the shed i will head, since there are still a few days left in the month!!!
In any case, here's a quick 'baseline' recording, playing the melody and changes from memory, and
without the benefit of my 2nd cup of am coffee:
Hopefully it will get a little better...

Why? Epi was using that headstock long before Gibson bought them. My 1950 Devon has it. It’s a historically correct Epi headstock. From about 1939.

I don’t busk but I did play outdoors in the park with friends during the pandemic. This was the power solution I used. Plenty of battery life for multiple sets (powering two amps).
Not ALL of them.
Maybe none of your favorites, maybe one or two.
But a surprising number of excellent ones who perform in a variety of styles.
Handy set of references.
Bro, I dont think you have one of these.. Just sayin..
Here is the trick. Throw all your pots and pans in the garbage, or donate them.. Replace them with Le Creuset's. Even I couldnt hit somebody...
Great study group. I appreciate all the discussions here around DL. Cool.
The fingering on m5 makes me always thinking about how to move on after the Bb (beat2) on the e-string.
Move to the right...
So this is the ungainly solution I have been using – weighing in at almost 9 lbs. But no grounding issue – when not played, the guitar is as quiet as can be, whether my hand is on the strings or not.
I bought a 2011 175 new and it had the laminated fretboard.
The fretboard was so stiff that the trussrod didn’t work.
It also didn’t even look like rosewood.
It was made shortly after the wood...
Hello Chris 32895,
Just like your Ibanez, my 175 showed herself as another instrument as soon as I put Thomastik-Infeld JS112's on. From then on, the archtop magic was full on. I'll never go back to...
I learned 5 positions, might as well use them. It keeps the 4 bars interesting over the week trying to get a few places. I moved Billies Bounce down an octave last night with relative ease, one...
The Blues Jr. sounds better than a quilter to me, but at a bar with people talking and drums playing, you can't tell. At the end of the night, the Jr. is just heavier and more fragile. The cable...
Dear Zigracer,
Yes I had the bridge removed a little bit towards the tailpiece and then had to adjust a few individual strings. And all of a sudden I had a new guitar.
Get the Jensen blackbird 40. I don’t see a reason to use a 10” neo speaker when it weighs the same as a small ceramic or alnico magnet (plus or minus half a pound). The Jensen blackbird is a great...
