I love this tune. I used to accompany a friend on clarinet on it before he passed away. The Duke Robillard version that the OP links to is really nice.
Here’s my attempt on solo guitar. I’ve been doing a lot more gardening than practicing lately, so it’s rough. I’ll try to work on finger mechanics and clean it up.
It's been awhile since i last logged in here, but there's a strange synchronicity in that i was just playing
'If I Had You' a couple of days ago, and here it is as this month's standard...
and so, off to the shed i will head, since there are still a few days left in the month!!!
In any case, here's a quick 'baseline' recording, playing the melody and changes from memory, and
without the benefit of my 2nd cup of am coffee:
Hopefully it will get a little better...

And yet I think that's exactly what you're doing when playing from a chord sheet or (from a more familiar, early music universe) playing a figured bass. Some players really have an enormous mental...
I don’t think you should label anything you play in the midst of an improvisation. It has to be sounds (not concepts) all the way during performance (as opposed to when practising). I once asked Jim...
Hi,
I know not many here play purely unplugged acoustic fingerstyle on their archtops, but what would be the (your) sweet spot for action height under the 1st, 6th and 3rd strings?

The first thing I think about is how much I have to offer them lol. Back in NYC I had a list of drummers and bass players and I knew their price points. Usually if the gig is well paid no trouble...
I also recommend Functional ear trainer. Notes with reference to a key centre more useful than intervallic at least for beginners

Ear training shmear training. Get into the habit of learning music by ear.
I’m seriousness if you have a bit of dead time, ear training apps are cool. But recognising am interval by ear is less...
melodic minor harmony is all on one note anyway.
maj7 on minor
#11 on 7,
9 on m7b5,
#5 on major 7
Learn to hear that one note and you’re golden.
For voicings there’s a couple of ones...
I received the 65 Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue yesterday and now I'm in a real dilemma :highly_amused:
I like different aspects of both amps. The Vox has a warmer sound but I prefer the bass...
Erm, if that's the case it was posted in the wrong subforum. The subforum where it has been posted implies that it's about bass players in general, excluding those who play jazz (exclusively)...

This guitar is in a remarkable good condition and comes with the original hard case.
