Forgot to mention one other thing re: the Hanon part of each lesson. I'm not taking the pattern, playing it in one position, and moving it through the keys. Too easy. I'm actually playing each pattern in 5 positions (Jimmy Bruno 5 Shapes again) throughout the full range of that shape from low to high to low, not necessarily stopping at octaves. I do this for two keys: the written one in the JoI book, and one a 4th up. This is not nearly as easy as what I originally did (in Lessons 1) which was to just play the written pattern in one position and then move it through the cycle of fifths.
