    Haha! Here it is.

You knew it was coming. No whining about how its "just an exercise" or some garbage. Its a catchy tune. It can even be a bossa, ask Pat Metheny

And yes, even though I'm busy, I'll do one this week. No excuses.

All right then. Here's kicking it off with a slow one courtesy of the ever-reliable Mr. Sunnybass.

I will try to get to a more legit tempo one, until then you'll just have to take my word I can (barely ...). Anyway to somewhat justify wussing out, I honestly do prefer it this way, irrespective of chops limitations.

I think I read somewhere that even Coltrane had to practise it for a year before daring to record it. But we get one week...

I've been practicing it (on and off) for decades. So I can't blame a short deadline. But I will.

So, it's the first time I try it.

Yes, you can laugh, I'm not a lot inspired so it sounds like a theme.

I’ve worked on it from time to time. But I’m a bit rusty on it now!

I saw James Moody play it at Ronnie Scotts, and he started off by playing it as a ballad, because he said the changes were so good, he didn’t want to rush through them.

Having said that, after a few choruses he suddenly upped the tempo and took off like a rocket (just to show he could)!

    Here’s a go at it.
I just got Band In A Box, trying it out here.

A separate thread should be created for a tune like Giant Steps.
Giant Steps is a big challenge for any musician.
There are ways to master this tune.It requires a lot of work and persistence.
You have to understand Coltrane harmonies first.
One of the easiest ways to improvise over GS is to use only three pentatonic scales.
D,F#, Bb- maj penta or parallel B ,Eb,G- minor penta.
By only operating with these three scales, you can play the entire GS.

    There is my short take:

    Hacks (some from Trane.)

The Bmaj7 chord in bar 1 IS ONLY PRETEND.

Phrase changes as follows starting from penultimate bar

    C#m7 F#7 B,
    D7 G Bb7 Eb,
    Am7 D7,
    Bb7 Eb F#7 B
    etc

The second and fourth lines here are the ones you need to practice - (note that they start on beat 3 though.) Everything else in the tune is a 2 5 1

    Play minor triads as follows

    D7 G —> Bm
    Bb7 Eb —> Gm
    F#7 B —> D#m

Very trane; triad sounds great on both chords,
more is I think that the I. You can extend to pentatonic.

This is fun - from the Bmaj7 in bar 7

    B Ionian
    B melodic minor
    Eb Ionian
    Eb melodic minor
    G Ionian
    G melodic minor
    B Ionian
    B melodic minor
