This week's pick was by Ronstuff. He added a few notes:

Milestones (old version)
This week's tune is often credited to Miles Davis, but it was most likely written by John Lewis.
The modal tune with the same name might be more of something we would hear in a jam, but I really love this tune. It has a few quirky twists harmonically. The head is total bebop and requires some attention, but the changes are quite fun! Beware, there are couple backing tracks on You Tube that have an 8 bar intro. Enjoy!

I'll throw in this take to get things going! I rarely play the melodies on these jams, but since I called the tune and play first I went forward with it.

Here's a terrific version from one of my all time favorite albums. Joe Henderson, John Scofield, Dave Holland and Al Foster. Sco is such a great sideman on that album!

Back to school and soccer coaching this week...going to be a busy time, but I want to make space for this one--this is a tune I don't know and have always wanted to learn. Doubt I'll get the head down, but I'll take a crack at some changes, maybe after the weekend...

Well, I think it was a joke, Tommo! We had an old wind-up gramophone for years and a collection of heavy Shellac 78's to go with it. I remember 'Dancing Cheek To Cheek' pretty well and all that sort of thing.

And I still have a red player just like this in store somewhere.

As for old school, many people swear by the old vinyl sound. They think the modern digi sound is cold. I know what they mean.

Ragman, once again your playing shows us that there are no chord changes that cannot be done with your approach and sound!

Triplejazz, great job! Nothing here you can’t handle. Nice lines that breathe and bounce.

I really dig René Thomas. Great version. He was such an energetic player.

The Rosenwinkel version is cool, I like how he leaves space and doesn’t try to make every chord change. His sound seems to make everything he plays sound modern, even when he’s just really inside the chords.
