Hi everyone ........ Got into Jazz just last year and been listening to lots of jazz standards since then. This is the first time im seriously trying to work on something , trying to copy solos( Miles Davis AL) note by note . Im really confused as to which scales he uses over the Am7b5 and D7#9 ............
Also is it appropriate to use F#melodic minor scale on D7#9?!?! And is this the right version i should be starting off with as a beginner ???? I'll be thankful if someone can help me with the scales Miles D used to solo over the changes ......... Thank You

Could you point to the transcription?

I think you mean D7#9, not Dm7#9, right?

you can do lots of things, miles was fairly free over scale choice "there arno wrong notes, just wrong resolutons..." I think was one of his

for me the best one to start with over both chord(other than Gm pent) is D Phyrgian Dominant 1 b2 3 4 5 b6 b7
thn you can go into more depth

Could you point to the transcription? It would help us get to what Miles is doing.

My guess is Bb major (A locrian) or C melodic minor (A locrian Major2) for Am7b5; Eb melodic minor (D altered) over D7#9.

    d7#9 would be D Superlocrian 1 b2 b3 3 4 b5 b6 b7
this would be a D#melodic minor scale

2:13-2:16 is in the sax solo (Cannonball). I found a transcription. This should help:

I play my version of Autumn Leaves. I love this standard composed by Johnny Mercer.

Here are the BASIC chords that go with the melody as per composer Johnny Mercer in Em.

It helps to know what you play before and after it, to chose a grip that fills the gap, but here are some choices:

    xx456x
    xx4565
