Pentatonic hack - flat the 5th of a min pentatonic and you have a great scale for min7b5, alt chords and maj7#11 chords!

Over Gm7b5 - C7 - FMaj7, i'm using Gm7b5 pentatonic, Bbm7b5 pentatonic and Bmin7b5 pentatonic.

Blues scale Hack! Over C7 to FMaj7, use Bb and A blues scales!

Over a C7 to FMaj7 chord, you can get all the juice notes by using a Bb Blues scale over the C7 and an A Blues scale over the FMaj7.

This gives you a C7b9#9#5 and FMaj7, easy-peasy!

This is a sweet line, easy to play and based on a D Min hexatonic scale.

Benson uses this hexatonic scale all the time and it's a really sweet way to incorporate hexatonic scales into your playing.

Hey Jack... love it. Thanks for all the posts, I'll start checking out...

I watch 1st vid. picking style demos on 4 on 6.

So #1 rest stroke...least favorite, difficult to hear shape in lines....

#2 Free... like it with the sweeps , did seem to get sloppy

#3 Likes the sound ... better accented shapes

#4 loose grip... yea love the sound on the edge of exciting

Of course always love all your playing and post.... hope things are in good directions

McCoy Tyner, 4th+5th (quartal) voicings over Giant Steps

This is a breakout of a larger lesson i'm releasing on wednesday but I felt it worthwhile enough to make it a separate lesson.

This is an example of 4th+5th voicings and in this video, I'm going to show you how to use them over the melody to Giant Steps.

Essential string muting technique for jazz guitarists

This is something I never hear discussed about jazz guitar. Through all my studies with Dennis Sandole, Pat Martino, Howard Roberts, Joe Pass, Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis, not one of them mentioned this.

And I wish they had. Because it's a fundamental part of a jazz guitarists weaponry - as it were.

Depends. I play fingerstyle and mute exactly the same way.

Charlie Parker, Multi-position 2-5-1 lick in G

This is a 2-5-1 (am7-d7-Gmaj7) charlie parker lick that's really exciting to learn and to play. In order to play bebop on guitar, it's necessary to learn to play over a wide area of the fingerboard and not just stay in a single caged position. The phrasing of saxophone lines and natural sounding bop lines demand this. (Although it's still a great idea to learn every line starting from every note and every string - as Dennis Sandole taught)

This is a really sweet 2-5-1 lick that I wanted to share with you. It uses 3 arpeggios:

Over Fm7, i'm playing a vanilla Fm7 arpeggio.
Over the Bb7, i'm playing 2 arpeggios:
- G Triad giving you Bb13b9
- E Triad #4 giving you Bb7b9#11
