In my study combo we're playing a song where our band leader would like me to play a rhythm like in the song Izaura bij Jobim.
Does anyone know if this rhythm has a name? It's not the Partido Alto, right?
I think I got it (more or less), but I'm so inclined to use my most used Bossa rhythm that I'm not sure. Anyone knows a source where this is explained in a slow tempo maybe?

That sounds like a very common and basic samba rhythm.

It's a two bar pattern. It has the first chord in the first bar delayed by a 16th (thinking in 2/4).

And, the first chord of the second bar right on the 1.

The people I play with locally call this "samba, with the upbeat bar first" or just "upbeat samba". That's not an accepted term. We don't know what the accepted term is.

The idea is comparable to 3-2 vs 2-3 clave. Brazilians sometimes talk about clave, but usually talk about tamborim pattern, a similar, but not quite identical concept.

Thanks RP. I'll try this pattern in the next rehearsal. I think it will work.
