In May 2008 Bucky Pizzarelli came to Toronto to play at the Heliconian Club. After the gig he kindly agreed to give me a lesson the following morning at his hotel. Here's the first 15 minutes or so. The guitar is a mid-1940's L50 which we traded back and forth during the lesson. In this part we were working on straight acoustic rhythm. His message (repeated often): "Lighten up!"
I wanted to share this as a tribute to the memory of this charming and generous guitarist. Please ignore my flubs!
A belated thanks for this gem you shared with us. Bucky comes across as such a friendly and warm person, in addition to being the master we all know he was. You were lucky to have this opportunity of meeting him!
not quite the same thing but I was working in club that was a converted house. the room was very small w/ a stage in the back and being a converted house the ceiling was low. I had my old L-5 on...
I did not have the pickups at the same time, so my comparison is by memory. I felt that the new one (I only compared the 1100) had less high end. I also felt that it was susceptible to more single...
I've told the story before, but may as well tell again-- in my younger years I played a club in Chicago that had two levels. We played 2 shows in one night, one on the main floor and then one in the...
Heritages, Gibson Citations, etc, can't say I've ever seen a figured wood guard I like against spruce tops, they just stick out and look out of place aesthetically. I tend to think if Gibson had used...
During my last year selling guitars, I seem to recall us getting an IBG 335 in stock and it being unnoteworthy, but I might be misremembering.
I wouldn't categorically shy away from Chinese-made...
I agree but why waste a perfectly good guitar, Im originally from N. Jersey where (in my day) a golf club was often kept just inside the door but nowadays I keep a 40v cordless weedwacker within...
I do a solo jazz guitar gig every Saturday with a Bud 6 and either a Les Paul or a Strat. The answer to your question is yes.
But make sure to use a wedge....
The top on my Heritage JS is thicker than you would think. It's not just about the width of the binding on the F-holes. Especially since the f hole binding on mine is actually thinner than the...
