I also think archtops both acoustic and electric are the most finicky guitars with strings. When I get a new archtop it takes several kinds and gauges to find the one that that particular guitar likes.
solid bodies seem the most forgiving, followed by flattops, IME.

Choice of string gauge is certainly a subjective decision. It's up to the individual to choose what they prefer. My only point is that we're talking about a Super 400 here, on which .014 sets are not at all dangerous. If someone prefers .011 string sets, that's fine, but it's a preference, not a structural limit.
