Yesterday I was looking again at the YouTube clip named Tribute to Freddie Green. (swing & bigband guitar). There is a photo of the younger Freddie with one of his Strombergs and there is this weird thing on the lower bout from appr the bridge - tailpiece top witch seems to be coming out of the f hole. What could that be? A cloth to protect the top?
What is that thing on Freddie Green's guitar-afbeelding2-png

Maybe some sort of 'improvized' damper to reduce feedback?

Where on the guitar, I can't see anything different.

A reflection from a light source, maybe ?

Looks just a shadow to me .... if anything would feed back then it would be the microphone.

I still don't see *where* on the guitar you're seeing this?

    True about reflection!

A curve of the f-hole creates and illusion of perspective volume

    It's a sunburst Stromberg Master 300.

Looks like a sharp light coming in from the left. Hits the microphones, guitar and the guy’s glasses in the background.

I still don't see what the op is referring to.

He's talking about the much lighter area at the end of the pickguard. I also think it's light, making it look solid in a stop motion of the old film converted to video.

    Can’t resist

The best thing on Freddie Green’s guitar is Freddie Green.

it's a sunburst finish, that's just the light area of the burst.
    nothing to see here...

It's a sustainer plate. It's made of brass and weighs 2.2 pounds. Freddie's guitar was so heavy, you can see how it slides down his lap. His fighting face shows that he has a hard time holding on to the behemoth.

Yes, Freddie's sustain was a thing of beauty.

Its the window to the mixing room giving a reflection. If you look closely you can see the face of the sound technician and the producer. One of them is smoking a cigar the other is holding what seems like a bottle labeled Old Harper.

It is ectoplasm coming out of the f-hole. Freddie was having a seance.
