As a blind Rabbi once said "It won't be long now"

Beautiful burst, amazing wood. She is turning out to be a beauty!

I went with that late 60’s early 70’s ES175 color combo.

Nobody sprays a burst better than Mark. Even though I love blondes you really need to go sunburst if you buy a Campellone.
Not to mention it will be like glass when he is done.
Nothing beats the fit and finish of a Campy. He has it down to a exact science.

I probably will go with a burst on mine, but that Gibson Red is soooo tempting

Now then, that looks rather special! Absolutely first class! And we all know it’s going to be in the hands of the right person for it. Congratulations, Vinny.

    Vinny,

I have a '72 175, that I bought in '72, with that burst. Every time I take it out of the case I fall in love with it again. It's beautiful!
Mark is truely an awesome luthier. You're guitar is remarkable! It's going to be quite a homecoming!

Sorry, as the owner of a beautiful blonde I must respectfully disagree!

But he sure does a great job on the bursts, I may need to order another!

I have been in the business of guitars for 30 years. I have compared many an archtop and when the rubber meets the road, Mark Campellone is the mans man of guitar luthiers..

You can't just splash the sides of that gorgeous blonde without giving us a peak at her rear, that's just cruel! But wow, those are two absolutely gorgeous guitars!

Oh FFS and God damn What is that option called? I NEED that option! Vinnie, PLEASE, when my turn comes up tell Mark I'm a friend of yours and need that maple

My V1K blonde model has a more mellow sound than my Special.
Mark told me that quilted maple has a softer tone than flamed.
IMO my blonde V1K model is the best sounding guitar I own.
    At least to my ears.

Mark says their is a great shortage of fine maple these days.
Getting extremely hard to find and the prices are getting ridiculous.

Big companies like Eastman are sucking it all up from the US.

A huge amount of maple goes into exploding baseball bats these days. MLB has abandoned ash, and gone almost entirely to maple. At the rate they break, tens of thousands are used each year across professional baseball.

Most dramatic quilt figured maple these days is usually presented in Bigleaf Maple. The quilt figure only shows when the log is flatsawn. Bigleaf in general is one of the lightest, least stiff and lowest hardness of the soft maples (e.g., Bigleaf Maple, Red Maple and European Sycamore etc.). When you plain saw it vs. quarter sawing it, it is even less stiff in its long grain and short grain stiffness.

My L5 also has that big leaf maple. It has a real airy sound.

The top two are examples of quartersawn, curly fiddleback Bigleaf Maple (15” carved back flattop sourced from northern California - top left and a 16” archtop sourced from British Columbia top right) and two examples of quartersawn, curly fiddleback European Sycamore (17” archtop sourced from Bosnia bottom left and a 16” archtop sourced from Austria bottom right).

The European Sycamore tends to be a bit denser, stiffer and harder than Bigleaf Maple. But even within a given species there is huge variation in physical properties. Bigleaf Maple ranges from California in the south up to British Columbia. European Sycamore ranges from Portugal in the west throughout the continent to Ukraine and Georgia in the east.
