Yeah long before I told Marty about the auctions I’d already spotted the one I wanted. it was Lot No. 174,
Looking at it and knowing the serial number which was in the ad I knew it was from the ghost built era with the old-timers doing the builds
I requested a condition report and they sent me five photographs - none of them were very good the only one that really told me what I truly wanted to know is the one of The label with the serial number in it and the signatures of the founding builders Heritage it was a true gem just waiting to be swept up

I’ve also owned many Heritage guitars over the years - and none better than this HJS I recently acquired. The tap tune and responsiveness is quite extraordinary.

As mainly an acoustic player, I’m always in search of fine acoustic Archtop’s. This one is quiet unique, it contains a signed tap tune label and another with the artisans involved with the build. The guitar has more of a post war Gibson feel rather than the more recent heavier versions, and it also has some of the great attributes associated with the best of Heritage . To me it was a remarkable find and its in near mint condition.

Marty Grass was kind enough to take the time to write me a beautiful bio of all the guys involved with this build.

The Abalone in the fingerboard is truly magnificent.

A truly great score Qman. Kudos

I spent a lot of time on the phone with Marty and talkinn to Pete Moreno and Steve Cowles and I’m like you
I really like the old posesr built instruments.
they just have that lighter acoustic feel to them. that’s what makes the Mark Campellone guitars so appealing to me

Thanks Crm14. Mark Campellone makes a great acoustic Archtop. Hes built a career on making a fabulous post war "Gibson" like instrument. His workmanship is impeccable and he's an absolute gentlemen.

I've known Mark since the early nineties and have owned 5 of his guitars, and presently own a " Special" made from all Euro woods, its a fabulous instrument.

Yeah so I was scrolling through the camera roll and ran across all these pictures of this guild artist award Johnny Smith from the time when Benedetto was working with them I bought this for Mardty Grass / originally Patrick had hand picked her out of three that were in Rudy’s and shipped it to Marty and the poor thing got horribly finish checked in transit and Marty took it to Pete Moreno who stripped it down to the bare wood and refinished it clear and it is just a sight to behold and a joy to play

A signed GBJSA!!! The signature of a guitar legend! That’s the guitar right there. I owned a signed version of the same guitar in a sunburst. They’re exceptional guitars. But I’d imagine yours is so much better since all that heavy lacquer the factory applied is now removed and the guitar can now breathe! Congratulations BM!

I've been longing for a Sweet 16 with a fixed humbucker. I've only played one, at the time it didn't speak to me I was looking for a larger, louder more acoustic guitar.

I owned one in a rare Chestnut sunburst. It was such a wonderful guitar that nearly played itself. Each of these is unique to themselves for each has its own voice.

This has turned into a show and tell.

Here's a H-555 made for Vince Lewis, a masterful jazz player. This guitar is not only stunning, but it has amazingly low action.
