These L5’s were all bought new and the blonde was the most expensive. A 2010. It was $6.7K plus tax. 20% down with a exact delivery date. The wine is a 2016 new from Wildwood at $6K. Ebony is the cheapest L5. The best I could negotiate is $9K + tax and no ETA for ebony. I have not seen any archtop from Gibson post bankruptcy. Who knows how the QC is now. $12K + tax for a blonde now. That is beyond what I think they are worth.
Yes I love the L5 but not at current prices. I can get a better L5 from Mark Campellone for half the price and perfectly made.
Crimson made some of the best archtops ever. This M2M department.....who knows.

Vinny, those are all clearly one-pup guitars. I've never really found the bridge pickup that useful myself.

Seems we might agree there ...

Then there's this. With its "oddly" spaced single pickup, it was roundly panned when it was introduced. Funny, mine has survived 64 years, and sounds great to this day!

Bridge pickups are useful for harmonic soloing ala Tal in Isn’t It Romantic or I Remember You and a few more. Otherwise I don’t miss it on my PM200 at all.

The only catalogue Gibson has is their website, so what I was saying above was that if it ain’t in their catalogue, it gives you a good sense of how important that line is. R8/R9 another story) Very common in sales to over price an item you don’t really want to make/sell, so their increasing prices may make sense.

I had a two year wait on my L5CESN, ‘87-89. Of course that was during the first days of Henry, long long ago. List then was 3,550$.

    Vinny, you’re a lucky man!

Random question: I've never had a guitar with a piezo bridge pickup. How are they for picking up harmonics?

    Huh. Good question BDLH.
l have only had one guitar with a bridge piezo a Gibson Montana flat top I used for church playing. Never could use that bridge pup it out quacked the AFLAC duck)

I somewhere read that the magic for harmonics was where the harmonic is being generated on the string versus the pup. So picking above the (off) neck pickup let’s the bridge pup catch the harmonic better. But I admit I really don’t know.
