as many know, epiphone cut all their full body archtops some time back...and scaled way back on their thinlines as well...so it's with hope, that i'm glad to see the return of some nice thin bodies

they brought back a pretty authentic looking riviera..with mini hums and frequensator

also added 3 worn finish casinos @ the remarkable price of 449$

hoping some full body archtops are coming soon as well

    cheers

Yeah, I stumbled on that new Riviera, too. Looks pretty close to the real thing (at least in pictures), and there are already a couple of videos up that sound pretty good, but the true test of a Riviera is upside down and in black and white.

Reminds me of my '64 Riviera in Teaburst. Bought used and at a good price, non - original. It had a stop tailpiece professionally installed, along with Grover tuners. Man did that guitar sing!!!!! Sold it to someone famous, I couldn't play the tiny neck anymore. Sad huh?

To me it looks like the Gibson Group is still searching the proverbial red thread, long lost. Endless variations on the LP theme. Nervous portfolio shuffling with semis - models come and go at short notice. Sheraton's gone, but there's a Dot Figured, Casinos, Rivieras and lots of new colors. Tooling for full-bodied archtops certainly exists, so a burst of activity on that front can't be ruled out. When it starts, better act and not just clap hands. But hand on heart, how many of you guys saddened by the demise of the American mass-produced archtop intend to grab a new, budget-priced Epi from Far East as soon as they reappear?

That burst really rings my chimes. I would swap sides with the frequensator, but that's just me.

Those budget-priced archtops will, in many cases (such as mine), lead to a life long love of archtops. I frequently pass them along to younger players after I have acquired their more expensive cousins.

That said, were I still gigging, I would jump on an Epiphone Premium ES-175 at first opportunity. I have a Gibson, with which I will not part, but it has long been my practice to bring back-ups.

I bought the smaller Epi Casino Coupe in the Summer (on a bit of a whim). It's a cracking little guitar equipped with P90's. I went for the rather garish turquoise colour too so it's not your archetypal jazz box. It's well made and well set-up especially at that price point.

Me too! And she's over 70 years younger than me! I find myself fiddling with the PU settings all the time. Using both gives a fuller, less dry spectrum than either P90 alone.

The only mod I've made was to remove the pickguard. Mine must be newer because it's only 59 years younger than me!

it was bleak for a while this year regarding these...nice to have them back...

casino is wonderful guitar....pretty much full hollow, except for small block under bridge...and with p-90's...can't lose!

    The review is on guitar.com:

The Big Review: Epiphone Inspired By Gibson ES-335 Figured

Also looks like they have showed up on musicansfriend at $599:

    Epiphone ES-335 Figured Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar | Musician's Friend

    That is a sweet-looking guitar. If I didn’t already have 2 thinlines...

I love the teaburst. And the binding. The pickups are Alnico Classics? Sure sound good on the video. The fretboard material is Indian Laurel...from the pictures it looks to be more open-grained than rosewood or (certainly) ebony. Nice stripey pattern. Interesting choice.

I am not in the mood for bashing Gibson. It looks like they are committed to making good guitars available at good prices through Epiphone.

    Yeah, great tone.

When the video started I was wondering how he was keeping it on his leg—Velcro? then I realized he had a thin black strap LOL.

I think that is one of the best bursts out there. Love it. I believe the Custom Shop did a 335 in that finish awhile ago...the Epi only costs 80% less...

I keep sizing up the new Epi LP Junior.

Don't need a new guitar. It doesn't even have a neck pickup. Don't need a new guitar. Don't need a new guitar.....

AR372 in Classic finish - set up today - full inspection, tweaked the truss rod, polished the frets and strung it with TI JS112s. Really nice. Two issues at this point. One is that the pole pieces on both pickups will not move from what appears to be random positions - never ever experienced this before and not sure how to free them. The other is a distinct overtone on the low E string which I have traced to its seating in the trapeze tailpiece. My guess is that it is a tiny burr of metal in the casting obstructing the ball end of the string that I cannot see. Again, not sure what to do. Any input from forum members who have experience either problem would be gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance,

    David

Reminds me of my '64 Riviera! Miss that guitar, but I couldn't play the tiny neck. Tone to die for, but if you can't play it !!!!!!!!!
Robben is fantastic. And his tone is too. Is that his 60's Epi? Notice the stop tailpiece. I had one too on mine. The guitar sang with it.

always torn about this kind of thing because my beloved elitist sheraton is the greatest guitar of all time, but they are misunderstood and underloved, and a part of me likes it that way. mine has bigsby though, because i'm awesome. weighs a shit ton now damn thing is magical, though; not much i can't do on it.

price aside (and they've been getting crazier and crazier as time goes by), i never sought out a real one because i was afraid of the skinny nuts. especially since i prefer the aesthetic of the later models.

as for the frequensator, i don't know, i've never tried one. but you get all kinds of cool ringy noises and you can play behind the bridge, and push down on the strings to bend them, which probably doesn't appeal to anyone here. but it's very handsome. the casinos look alright too, though i think i'd prefer them with opaque finishes. still, i'm glad they are still putting holes in things. holes are always fun.

Apologies to all for my earlier pots re-AR372CE - clearly hit the wrong key! C'ete involuntairement. Issues now solved other than for a maxed out truss rod when neck is dead straight.

just to clarify...epi is still making the classic original clear and sunburst finished casino's...they just added the worn casinos as a cheaper (by 200$) alternative!

I dig that worn ebony model! I might have to finally pull the trigger on a casino now.
