I've been on the lookout for a light semi hollow guitar so I've been looking at D'Angelico EX SS models lately and researching them online. Last week I noticed that on Reverb, Musician's Friend was selling open box EX SS's in Surf Green for $715, there were 3 available. I put it on my watch list and the next day Reverb emailed me that Musician's Friend had dropped the price to $580. It was too good a price to pass up. I guessed that these would be NOS of discontinued models rather than customer return open box, because they had three in the same color, a color no longer used for EX SS. Now I realized that the Surf Green (especially in gloss not matt) is not for everyone, but oddly enough I recently sold a Reverend Rick Vito art deco guitar in surf green for what I paid for this one. So basically I swapped one surf green art deco guitar for another!
