Yesterday I posted a vid of my Les Paul copy with 2 new classic 57 Gibson pups. But I had the neck pup on my FG 100 changed as well. The Les Paul really sounds way better than before but the difference in my FG 100 is there but maybe not so striking. I guess the original pup on the FG 100 was pretty good to begin with. Still, the guitar has a bit more of a Gibson vibe I think. A bit more thunk I guess. My guitar tech thought the difference is huge.

I went for a Tal Farlow vibe on the tune.

Anyway this how the Ibanez sounds through my Polytone now with the new pup.

You always sound so great no matter the guitar.

It's funny how the pickup itself might sound very similar, but what you have to do playing that guitar with the new pickup can change. Sometimes I think what we feel about a pickup is not that it can't produce a certain tone, it's whether that tone comes with our preferred technique, picking strength, etc. Maybe it's a response issue? You sound great here.

    FG100 uses a Super 58

Super 58's are very nice p'ups, as are Classic 57's. To my ear they sound similar.

As always, your playing is top notch.

Now you owe us a 'new puppy day' thread.

    Thanks for listening Joe.

To all: Spot the Farlow lick! There is one of Tal's signature licks in there!

Are you comping for yourself? If so, which guitar and amp?

I have no idea what your guitar sounded like before, but the new pickup sounds pretty righteous to me. Nice playing, too!

Sounding great as always! Love the tone of that Ibby with the new Pu. Also, great to see another picker “anchoring” the pinky. Between you and Martin Taylor, I don’t feel so bad about “incorrectly” bracing my finger on the pick guard.

That guitar sounds like it can produce thunk. Can it?

I think so yes. Everybody seems to have his own idea of what thunk is but I do hear it in this recording. Maybe the new pup brings it out more. I hear it on my my Gibsons all the time but this is by far the thunkiest sound my Ibanez has ever produced on a recording. Would you agree?

My first impression of the recording was, hey that guitar has thunk. How can anyone not hear it. So I didn’t hear the guitar before this recording. Has the guitars character truly changed that much from a pup change?

Like I said, the original pup was not bad and the guitar did have some thunk before the swap but it seems to me it's even more thunky now. A more Gibsonesque kind of thunk ...
