This caught my eye: P90s, 24” scale length, pau Ferro, not too expensive.

    Looks cool!

For some reason I have always digged the shape and size of the Mustang. About 35 years ago I had a real 1965 black Fender Mustang for some years. In black light (UV) it was suddenly light green!

At last I got enough of its shaky tremolo arm system and the thinness of the body and asked a luthier to make a clone of it with a strat thicked body and TOM bridge.

For some reason I never bonded with it. Until I found the P90 pickups. They made it alive. But it was humbuckers that made that guitar sing. And dance!

In fact it is all I need, if I sometime have to sell the other 4 electric solid bodies away.

I have one of these in a bright red. It's a marvelous little player. Fit and finish are very good. Nice frets, sweet tones.

That's funny. I've been inching closer to grabbing a Player Mustang bass PJ...keep returning all week to stare at this...they could be sisters...

Nice. When I was a teenage in the 70s I bought a used '65 Mustang... years before the vintage guitar thing. Traded it for another used guitar. 59 Guild CE-100. Who knew?

I'd put flatwound strings above those P90s and see what tones came out!

I’ve always liked P 90s even before I knew what P 90s were. Back in the day, a friend’s brother had a casino with P 90s and I thought it was just great. I missed out on a Ernie Ball/musicman But had P 90s and I kind of kicked myself about it for quite a while. The P 90s with the short scale should be an interesting mix. Yeah, throw on some flats. Very interesting combination.

This is the charm of the Fender JA-90 Telecaster. Not to mention the jazz tone standard bearers like the Gibson ES-125.

I have been an acoustic guitarist for over 50 years--archtops / gypsy / classical guitars. Quite knowledgeable about them. I have bought a Fender 'Mustang', my first ever solid guitar. If you can advise on a few questions regarding the Fender much appreciated. (Please note: The guitar now has only 4 strings for a 4 string tuning--the 1st & 6th strings have been removed to accommodate the 4 string tuning--if you are wondering why the guitar only has 4 strings.

    a) I would like to fit a whammy bar, It has no whammy bar. Do I buy a new bridge with a whammy bar attached?
    b) If so can you recommend what to buy? What do I look for in a whammy bar? What are the choices out there? Beware of the cheap ones?
    c) Regarding a case for the Fender 'Mustang'. Would a Fender Strat or Telecaster case be suitable for the 'Mustang'? Other makes suitable.

that's a stop bridge/tailpiece on there...to fit any fender type trem, you'd need to cut into the body...even a bigsby whammy would require a new or modified bridge....

really probably not worth the effort...could trade it for a fender/squier jaguar...the jag and mustang share the short scale necks

    cheers

You can get a new body already routed and with the tremolo if you look around if you don't want to route it yourself.
