Eastbourne... isn’t that where they place the dead in bus shelters with a ticket in their hand? What? They’re not dead? My bad, they just look that way

Les Pauls are out because they're overpriced and overrated, imho. I've never played an LP that I even kind of liked. Nothing that small should be that heavy.
Try an Eastman SB59. You can find a pre-owned one for that money. It's lighter than most Gibson LP's and it gets raving reviews for it's tone, playability and workmanship. I have one with Amber Spirit of '59 pickups and the tone is unbelievable.

You should try the Harley Benton Fusion guitars available at Thomann.
Made by Cort in Indonesia, set up by Thomann techs and IMHO best bang for buck you can get at the moment. Roasted maple neck, SS frets... check the specs here:

Harley Benton Fusion-T HH Roasted FNT – Thomann Slovenia

There is also a hardtail version, and a double cutaway (i have the double cutaway HSH version)

Definitely down to an SG or a PRS s2.

Itll all depend on the best used price/model I can find in the next few months.

    Thanks for all the help/enabling

strat necks don't really fit teles, you can put it in, but the neck pocket is different, not a great idea

Early to mid 2000s Gibson Les Paul Studios, amazing cheap guitars.

If not that, then this for sure.

    * Disclaimer:

    Solid wood quality.
    Duncan Jazz / JB pickups.
    Grover tuners.
    Tone Pros bridge.
    Graphtec nut.

Solid specs , ignore metal company name on headstock.

    Disclaimer 2:

If you like narrow , fat, slow lacquery necks like Gibson Les Paul, then this is super take in it.
    If not - avoid it.

    Another proper one;
    Old Gibson SG Standards.
Not sure about a price, but if you find something without high output rock and roll pickups.
    Amazing deal also.
Same years as Studio, older models - 2nd hand.

    * Disclaimer also:

Gibson quality has gone worse from earlier 2010s so.
I like older 2000s model a lot better in terms of quality.
Les Paul Studio Fadded from 2010-2011-2012 is a joke compared to "real" LP Studio from early years.
I guess same applies for SG models.

    **

Here u go, this should be okey start.

Gibson SG Standard 2005 Ebony | Guitarbank | Reverb
Gibson 2005 SG Standard w/demo video! | TC GAKKI | Reverb

For sure I wouldn't get newer SGs so. If new SGs are like Studio Fadded from 2010 in terms of quality, then big no.

I've heard on few places that early mid 2000s Gibsons are better quality then early 2010s Gibsons. I have witnessed that myself on Studio 05 vs Studio Fadded 2011.
Not sure about 2017 and later so.

Sounds like you’re settled on the options but I just came across these. Price seems attractive and it gets great reviews.

My "go to" solid body with twin humbuckers is a MIJ 2016 Ibanez 2619 Artist Pestige. Made to exceptionally high standards it blow away many Les Pauls and SG's I've played - plus it has the added vesatility of two Super 80 trisound pickups (series, parallel and single coil) for a massive tonal palet. Mahogany body, flamed maple top, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, abalone inlays. Like a Paul, it's fairly heavy, but that comes with the type of guitar....

Far better then new onces ....

    For 950 - 1000€ , worth it.

I had a mid 70s Guild S100 that was better than an SG.

One of those coincidence/small world moments...
Despite the OP clearly narrowing down his choice I'd a reply typed out ready to paste and then refreshed the page.
I was going to suggest a 1970s Guild. I'd a S60(?) with two single coils, but I'd also played the equivalent with humbuckers and then tried another that was kind of an asymmetrical SG shape. Point I'm making is that they were all great guitars, as good as anything I'd laid my hands on at that stage.

    e: apparently it was a Guild S60-D -

    Out of box thinking also.

Ibanez has tons of models over the years.

So it shouldn't be that hard to find older Prestige RG for 1000€.

Only issue - needs pickup change for sure.

And if you hate floyd, you are in trouble.

But lovely guitars, tons of them are from mahogany.

    Something like this.

I guess by ruling out Les Paul.

    Weight is issue.

Saber series is okey pick for weight issue then. XD

Luckily for you, you have tons of options in 2nd hand for 1000€ price.
    Tons of lovely guitars.

^^^ The talk of Ibanez reminds me of a friend from years ago who despite being a limited player loved guitars. As far as I recall this was in the mid 80s. He had a number of Ibanez instruments, one of which was in the proverbial 'superstrat' form. It was black - black finish, black hardware, black binding etc. I remember the volume knob was a push/pull tap and that it and the tone controls were ribbed on the vertical. It had some sort of locking trem and the radius felt fairly flat. Point is, hardware/cosmetics aside it was a really nice Gibson feeling guitar, and I can't imagine how anyone who is comfortable with that kind of spec wouldn't at least give it a chance.
There are a lot of nice 'sleeper' instruments out there worthy of consideration.

    Why? XD

    I love Ibanez necks.
Tiny bit thinner then Strat - me like.
Wide string spacing - me like a TON.
Fast neck, super fast - me like also. xD

I hate slow, lacquer, FAT, narrow string spacing Gibson alike necks, D-shaped.

Pain in the 455 to play. XD

    **

My first neck was like that.
    Tung oil finish.
    Tiny bit thinner then Strat.
    Wide string spacing.
It was best neck ever, believe me or not.
    Gosh it was amazing neck.
Other necks compared to that, are joke to me.

    **

Btw Ibanez Prestige is super high quality.

Just Floyd is big no no for me.

    But super quality guitars.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to get a used Gibson les Paul if you don't have one. Traditional or even a standard should be in your budget.

Although.. following the trend of players using teles for jazz, I came across this one: check this player on Instagram, he's great! This guitar is a combination of a Fender and a Gibson, can obviously cover anything, and visually too. I'm thinking of building one in the style myself, but with a Gibson scale as well.. and left handed! Difficult in Europe though But so practical, for traveling and practicing, during the summer, etc..

Another guitar that is great and very versatile is the Gibson Nighthalk (or Blueshawk depending on tastes)!

I told him to get mid early 2000s Studio.

    He doesn't like idea.

    Amazing guitars, and super cheap.

And yeah, no to Standard. Has Burstbucker PROs which are hard rock pickups.
Traditional has Classic 57s, much more better for jazz, since they are like Duncan 59s.

Friend has Burstbucker Pros on his Studio Fadded ~2012.
    Bright and more high output.
Classic 57s are traditional PAF clone.
Far better pickups for jazz , so .....

    **

Studio has 490R 498T , which are most versatile so ....
I would say Burstbucker PROs are most bad of the 3 so .....

Just a reminder: Jeff is not going for a jazzy guitar:

I should mention, the project would be a dad rock thing I'd probably never share here, but I found some dads of my kids' friends who play drums, keys, and a multi-instrumentalist who prefers bass, and they dig stuff like the Allmans and the Dead, but also Sabbath and Crimson and Zappa stuff, and I just don't have a guitar to play this stuff on, and I can't change my tele setup, it's perfect as is.

He wrote - no Les Paul in 1st post so.
    He did say SG .....
He specifically rule out Les Paul so ...

SG should rule that rocky stuff.
    SG then without a problem.
Light, rocky, can clean if u want.
    SG is awesome.
