Will be interested in seeing how long it takes to finish the guitar. In Barker and Hollenbeck's shop about the fastest they could knock a guitar out was 10 weeks. Much of the time was drying of the finish before the buffing. In reality mostly it took about 3-4 months done in batches of 5 guitars. ]

That is great looking wood Vinny. How did you work out the royalties on other request for this guitar? I am not sure what Johnny Smith got for his and did Wes actually ever get anything at all.

I do believe that the Montgomery family has received some royalties from Gibson.

And thank the Lord you and some others are keeping him gainfully employed!

Mark Campellone does batches of 6 every 4-5 months. He is my age 65. I know he is probably wanting to slow down but with Gibson out of the archtop game I suspect he will be a very busy beaver.
He is a machine. His train is always running on time. He told me 4 months for my Special and 4 months it was.
Very humble man. Never advertises or goes to NAMM. Just builds great archtops. Word of mouth. Steve QAman told me I must own one and now I say the same. Campy’s are L5’s on steroids.

As I’ve said in the past . For those who desire that post war Gibson vibe - a Campellone will satisfy that urge better than any boutique builder- .....it’s what he does.

It’s just a stress free build. The quality is consistently fantastic - and he has many happy customers.

You really couldn’t ask for a better experience than what you get when dealing with Mark.
He is an understated pro, sick talented who is an absolute gentleman.
I’ve been a Gibson fan my whole life and I won’t abandon them, but I feel like they abandoned me.
Now, I can’t wait to get my hands on my very own Campellone. That’s the apple of my eye now.
Vin if it wasn’t for you praising the man and his work, I wouldn’t have switched over. Mikey if you didn’t let me demo your Standard I never would have known first hand how superb the guitars are.
It just all clicked into place 5 minutes after I setup Mikes guitar and played it.
Vinny, that is an incredible piece of wood. And it’s in the hands of a gem of A guy, who knows what to do with it.
    Ohhh the good life..

    Amazing figuring.

I’m excited to have a build in this batch as well - a 16”x3” Standard, tapered headstock, with a P90.

    Kind of a smaller, early 50’s L5.

IMO....The Cameo is equal to a Citation or Unity at the price of a new L5.
If I was 10 years younger......not to mention the wife’s cast iron frying pan...

Just look at the back of the headstock.
If you can coax your eyes away from the insane quilt in the maple back.
    Incredible.

Nice. I think I’m going for a second Campellone soon. Probably will go for a 17” as my 18” Special is a bit of a beast. Is the V1K going to be a non cutaway guitar? The back wood looks very nice. Here is my 1998 18” Special photos from shop I bought it from as I don’t have any I took myself on my device.

Vinny, I wanted to yell, "Nice backside you got there!" But I know I will get into a lot of trouble with the women and some men in my vicinity.

That is a very nice backside, Vinny. Hauling a lot of maple ass.

I am the opposite of most. Most like the airey sound of wide grain spruce. I like tight grain. A more compressed sound.
This is basically a Standard with upgrades. Mark is doing me a solid.
This will be a fun build and at my age my last. My sunset guitar and most likely the most cherished.
