After A ton of emails and a bunch of phone calls I finally took the chance and bought this guitar! I finally understand why everybody raves about the Seventy Seven brand. Everything about this guitar is rock solid and the feel and Playability is nothing short of amazing. There’s no question that these are some seriously well-made guitars and definitely what you would expect from a hand-built custom made guitar.

Exrubato Jazz has a block, but the block itself is hollow. I believe they used to make a separate Exrubato Hollow. I think someone was selling one here a while back.

I tried a fully hollow Exrubato (called Jazz on the trussrod cover), a Custom order perhaps ?!I was very impressed by the look, tone was ok but neck was a little skinny for me, a little thinner than the 2018 es330 so I go Gibson for a few more €.

Interesting! I don’t know what to make of that. Here’s the listing for the Exrubato Hollow that says Hollow in the truss rod cover. Everything I’ve “learned” about these guitars has been through discussion of the specs online. I supposed I could stick a mirror down into my Jazz and see, but I am almost certain it has a block.

that must have been a custom order. All the seventy seven necks are like gibson 50s necks by default. VERY BEEFY. I've owned half a dozen seventy sevens and they were all super fat necks. In fact, when I was offered an endorsement a couple years ago, I custom ordered a "thin" neck. When it arrived, it was about like the gibson 30/60 neck. Not thin but not a baseball bat.

in fact, part of their philosophy is that the neck is a HUGE part of the guitar's sound so they absolutely wouldn't make a thin neck when I asked them. Maybe the one you tried was a "one-off" or perhaps someone had it sanded down...

For my not too big hands the necks of my two Seventy Seven guitars feel pretty comfortable, while what you describe as a "thin" neck, someone else sees as "skinny". So likely it is just a matter of taste.

I can't compare the neck to a baseball bat as I have no clue about baseball.

nobody could call the thin neck I got on my custom skinny. Skinny is the fender american standard .810 at the nut. Mine is considerably thicker than that. My kessel is skinny . It's about .810 at the nut.

And again, that's a custom order, they make fat necks. It's part of their company philosophy

Sure, but my concern is that shouting VERY BEEFY and mentioning a baseball bat doesn't sound positive about the neck shape. Next thing is that people dismiss this great guitar for that reason without ever have seen or tried it. I assume we agree that this is a pity.

After a weekend of seemingly non stop playing, this guitar is nothing short of spectacular. Reading some of the comments above, I can tell you from being an almost exclusive Gibson player, this guitar, for me, is more comfortable than the 335 and the neck is definitely not a tree trunk or a baseball bat. It’s definitely not a thinner neck as compared to some models in the same category by other manufacturers but I had ZERO playability issues. I did not even switch out to my trusty 35 year best friend, my Les Paul. Not even when we played Casino. There is nothing about the ergonomics of this guitar that prohibits playing as fast as you can. Maybe I am immune to the “thicker” necks being a classical guitarist as well as a LP player but compared to the others I have tried in this category, this Seventy Seven is just superior in my opinion.

The guitar is a semi hollow body with the block having a rectangular cut out aft the tailpiece. In an e-mail that was forwarded to me, by the now former owner of this guitar, from a Sho Hara, it stated: “It is a custom-built EXRUBATO-CTM made in 2015. The specs is standard except it has the Mojotone 59 humbucker pickups, coil tap swtich and custom jack cover.” Trying to find out what is “standard” has been a bit of a challenge as I am new to these guitars and my search has gone on only for a few weeks, starting before I bought this guitar. I’ve sent out emails trying to figure out the build specs on my guitar and have come up short even when questioning the distributors here in the US. Hopefully soon, I’ll have additional information about the specs on this guitar and I will post them here. Until then..........I will be doing all I can to wear out this new set of strings! ?

According to the official Deviser page, the Exrubato Jazz is listed as “hollow” while the Custom is listed as “center block.” Interesting!

Here are some pics I just took with the borescope I use on jet engines. Definitely not hollow!
