    In my old age I think it would be nice to have a flashy guitar. Blue, green, orange, gold, something like that. I think a little tasteful show-biz can be a good thing... There are two new Ibanez 335-style guitars that look pretty good, with see-through bright green and blue finishes. What says the forum about such outlandish colors? ... I used to play weddings with a trumpeter/leader who, when you complimented him on his playing, said "Never mind how I played - how do I look?"

    Hoyer made some quite radical designs - more with shapes than with colors. This may well be the most radical:

    Hofner went crazy with colours at one point.

    A while ago I too started to look at (and buy) gits with flashy colors, and I actually started to like Cadillacs / Lincolns and crock shoes. It's age related but what the hey :-)

    One of my faves... sorry for the burst ;-)

    After the Blue Guitars for Chinery I sort of do not like Blue. They look ok but frankly in my mind nothing beats a true Cherry Sunburst with the reddish at the edge and yellowish in the middle. I like a traditional sunburst but just not real dark. Those true red transparent gibson are really nice too.

    Yea, blue guitars suck.

    I was just thinking about this last night. I’m a strictly amateur player and do open mic nights. I’ve got an inexpensive bright red Korean-made Hofner. Last night I had several people come up to me and say, “Man, that’s a gorgeous guitar!” I couldn’t help but wonder what they thought of my playing. I wondered what their reaction would be if I found an ugly guitar that still sounded good. Would people pay more attention to the music?
    BTW, the Hefner is a great instrument. Only cost me $500. Periodically I’ll pick up a high-dollar guitar and I always think, “This is nice, but it’s really no better than the Hofner.”

    My guitar "jazz verde milonga" made by Daniel Slaman. Instant love or hate. It was definitly love for me.

    Truly one-of-a-kind guitar dedicated to the Italian singer/pianist Paolo Conte. Superb inlays both on the headstock, pickguard, tailpiece and fretboard.

    Don't know what Gibson did to that wood
    It is the zoot suit series including LPs and SGs. No archtop.
    And it's not mine.

    It's basically a plywood body, with each layer stained a different colour. When the top gets carved, it exposes the layers like that.

    The SG model referenced looks like;
