Messing around on youtube I bumbed into an italian brand which seems to be very "boutique-esque". Anyone on this forum knows it?

    GLB Sound – Amplification Lutherie

BTW, I'm a french guy, I live in Spain, and I have absolutely no relation with GLB.

My main amp is a GIG50FS in Sapele wood, it is a really clean amp and I assure you that the speaker type of wood changes the sound dramatically, with my guitar I also like very much the Pear wood. The guy who makes these amplifiers is very helpful and prepared.

    Congrats, Dave93.

Any chance we can hear (and see) a sample of yours?

Not the best quality recordings, with a Polara reverb.

The truth is that I feel a strange sensation with these amps, especially in this video:

I'm not sure if I like it or not. (Apart from the guy's playing, which is excellent).

It seems somewhat hollow, I don't find a better word to describe it...grainy, too... VERY distinct, in any case, with a lot of personnality.
Maybe organic is another word for describe it.

    I have a GIG50R in elm wood.

It is a great amp for archtops and semis with a lot of headroom.

I live in Spain, Barcelona, in case you want to try it one day

I wonder where the light distortion in the sound comes from, is it the amp or the recording youtube etc? Excellent playing!

Nice playing, nice sound! Nice weight, nice looks.

But I did not find any hints about the pricing. Are the prices nice too?

The video starts with tapping off the tonewoods used to craft the amplifier. That should give a hint about the prices..

If you gave me free amps, I'd really like them, too.

    How much $$$ ?

1900 euros for the non reverb version. Not too bad for a boutique 50 watt tube amp. That last video was great sounding..

I know Steve. That's REALLY not him. If he tells you he loves something, believe it.

I have checked out 3 versions of these amps at a boutique store here in Mannheim and I have to say that all 3 had an excellent sound - slightly different depending on the wood used for the cab but non-the-less the sound was balanced, warm and clearly carried the distinct tone of my guitar. No hiss, no hum, superb workmanship all around but still, with that hefty price-tag it's difficult .... My trusty Evans RE200 or the newly acquired BUD both cost me about a 3rd (ok, used but still !!!!) of a new GLB and the tone I get out of these amps is absolutely fine and useable, especially when I'm playing with other musicians. If €€/$$ were no issue then I'd have one sitting here in my studio in no time. Make that two.

Must have been Frank's Guitar Boutique... Which one did you prefer?

If I remember correctly it was the mahogany version - as I metioned, the differences were minimal and very difficult to put into words.
BUT the difference was VERY noticeable when I plugged the amp into a normal open-back cab : the solid wood construction of the cabs is definitely
a key factor for the quality of tone ...

A friend of mine has a pear wood one. That is also what Gianluca recommended for my guitar. Though I agree with you that the differences must be subtle. The combo version has an open back, so that will sound less compressed.
