Some raggedy assed played out old thing.
    Lol
Some dude that can't play that well owned it.

All sarcasm aside Pater Farrell contacted me and we brokered a deal. He got it from GB some years ago.
pictures when Peter comes through town next week on his way to Los Angeles. I’m pumped.

BM, I think you need one of these. If you don't already have one.

That’s at a decent price. There was a ‘78 blonde I was negotiating for in December then I got that Heritage DA New Yorker instead.

    Mikey,
Personally, I think buying Georges Guitars is an incredibly wise investment.
Now having said that, I hope George lives strong for at least another 50 years.
He is such an icon to so many people here. Vinny says he is the reason he plays Jazz guitar. I've never actually said it but he is one of the reasons I gravitated to Jazz over the years myself.

He is not only a great Guitarist and Singer - but he is also a great human being. A credit to humans, period.

His rendition of Stardust is my absolute favorite song ever. So much so, that I play it, note for note in my chord melody arrangement of the song.

That is a real nice guitar Mikey. Real nice.

I will never forget that day in 1972 when I heard White Rabbit. I walked away from rock n roll and bought a guitar.
Thanks George ! Also a man of honor. All that fame and faithful to one woman since 1963.

Marco turned me on to a Jimmy Smith CD called Off The Top. Benson chops at its best. A MUST have.

Peter took a red eye flight from San Paulo with a four hour layover at O’Hare. I grabbed a cab to meet them once they got through Custom. We were chatting for a while in an area reserved for handicapped people. It got kind of busy so I got a cab home. The flight attendants let him put the gig bag in their closet. It’s a lovely guitar, being in a busy airport made me realize how bad my eyes really are.

I had no idea that this album even existed. I picked out George, (Obviously) Quincy Jones, Lionel Hampton and Steve Gadd on the drums. Oh my God. I am buying this album tonight on Itunes.
Mike this is a GOLD MINE! I think it was the last album Frank Sinatra ever did.

    Thanks,

whos the handsome guy on the right?
Nice going Mike. Like I said, buying George’s Guitars is a good investment, in my opinion.
And by the way, Peter is an UNBELIEVEABLE player.
Its really cool that the staff allowed the guitar to be taken on board the plane.

Peter was sure he'd have time to cab out to Casa Big, deliver the guitar and hang out. BUT then he said it was a 4 hour layover... I told him no man, I'll cab out there. Sure enough I was up at 05:30 and in a cab at 07:20 and waiting upstairs in this handicapped area. We were WHAT'SAPPing each other. Here he comes with a buddy who acts as his bass player. Now those redeye flights from south america use big planes and usually they're half empty. I know my flight to Chile and the return flight were more than half empty. The airline lets employees take buddy pass vacations down there on a redeye. The attendants have it so down that they arrange the seating so paying customers have nice window seats with a whole aisle to themselves and the flight attendants take the middle aisle, knock the armrests up and sleep most of the flight. On the flight back from Chile a flight attendant brought me dinner from 1st Class and 6 bottles of Gran Mariner to pass the time with. Lights went way down right after dinner. It was great. I sat looking out the window at the scene below with the moon shining down on it...

As for the guitar, this one is not pristine perfect condition, the lacquer has a few dings but they're small and it makes me less paranoid about actually suing it. The F holes are covered with clear tape but the thing is really loud even covered up. I played it a bit through my Texas Flood and the pickups sound really sweet... The neck has a tiny bit more beef than RED, the prototype I won in 2017, but it is very easy to play. It has that lush look of a top notch artist model.

Peter brought it in a padded gig bag. He said he was certain the airline would not let it in the cabin in the case because of the weight. But the padded gig bag would get on, and he was right. All in all it's great to have this done.

a grand day. Played her some more, caught a long nap, had a lovely pot roast in red wine and mushroom gravy with fingerling potatoes and headed out to the porch to watch a fantastic sunset and smoke a rare Cohiba Majestuoso to the nub.
    Wow

    more later

Too lazy to cook on Easter Sunday, I went full bull goose looney Monday making that the old slow way... The whole nine yards. It's truly awesome... I cooked the fingerling potatoes in the pot the last hour - all told 3 hours in a 350 degree oven. The mushrooms really added a great touch, using a very nice cabernet as the base of the sauce (tomato paste and beef stock the other element). Soooo good.

I was just going to have a salad for lunch . . . I'm not so sure now???

Love the GB5, sounds great in the CNN clip, but what doesn't in George's hands.

For those who dont know, Johnnie Lee is Georges beautiful bride.
The vast majority of the songs he performs are written by others (and perfected by George), but he wrote that one.

Hey Big~ Congrats on another great Benson score.

Is the GB5 the same size (17" lower bout) as the GB200?

Also, how do the two of them compare tone-wise? The GB200 neck pickup is closer to the end of the fretboard than the GB5. Does that make the GB5 a bit more bright?

I’ve never owned a GB200 so I’m not qualified to compare. The GB5 is a lacquer finish, it’s my understanding that Ibanez went to a poly swinish when they rechristened the 5 and called it the 200, much in the way they made modest changes to the GB12 and called it the 100.

After a lot of online digging, I think I found the answer to my question.

The GB5 is 17" at the lower bout, and the GB200 is 16 3/4".

Play that beauty in good health!

Your comments got me looking at GB5s and GB200s to compare them. Seems the GB200 also has a very pronounced cutaway that is very obvious to see, especially from a backside view. Check it out.

When studying up on the GB5 a couple years ago it was really hard finding much of any concrete info online. Even trusty old ICW didn't have that much. I'm very happy I have both of these.

And to address a comment Joe has made, ya know man I'm not buying his guitars as an investment though I could say that and sound real "smart". I'm buying them because the guy is my damn hero. Imagine being able to buy Babe Ruth's bat, or Joe Montanas helmet... A lot of guys would look at them and go WOW, fuck that was HIS... That's me. But I'm buying to have fun, it's the emotional and physical attraction for me. It's not about the Benjamins...
