Just bumping this because I got my Gabojo Mr 2000 in the mail last night and installed it immediately. It sounds wonderful. I’m liking it with flatwound strings but I will also give it a shot with rounds. I’ll write a more detailed review with some audio soon.

Like me.
Because I have a bunch of NOS ones.
Just sayin' ...

It does sound like a particular period of van ruller's career but i think it requires a really great guitar, amp and player to balance out what - to me - sounds pinched and nasally.
Van Ruller's moved onto a standard humbucker lately. And it still sounds like him!

After trying a vintage Gretsch with Dynasonics and (almost by coincidence) getting my hands on a nice NOS pair (made for Martin in the early 60's) Barry at Grez guitars was kind enough to custom make me one of his standard Mendocino models to accept these. Quite a great match, as the Grez sports a small, resonant and very light chambered body with a small (about two fingers wide) block for sustain and punch.

Grez makes Uber-cool stuff. Those pickups are fantastic!
Related: I just started a thread about Julian Lage's new Collings "Jet", with Ron Ellis "Dearmond" pickups. Tones to die for!

Oh... and an update from my post above...
I took the T90s out of the Cabronita, and put in T-Armonds. AWESOME. But I can never leave well enough alone, so I then replaced those with Rio Grande BBQ Trons set, which are heavily overwound Filtertrons (Filtertrons are very weak pickups), the BBQs have a tonal EQ more in the PAF realm than Gretsch realm. They are also awesome.
But seeing the Julian Lage video I posted, I think I'm going to put the T-Armonds back in.

that is a handsome instrument. i'm a supertron guy myself, but i've always wanted to give the dynas a shot. the vessel never happened for me. turns out 55 falcon reissues aren't free.

Synchronicity. I recently cobbled together this Happycaster with a set of T-Armonds (in P-90 garb) that I happened to have:

I love my Dynasonic for jazz. This is my '53. They don't seem too popular around here, but I think it's a great jazz-box.

this recent dyna entry from guild is nice as well...if you don't mind malibu blue!
cheers

When I got my '61 Guild Starfire II a few years back, I was knocked out by the tone: the thin mahogany body is just the most resonant guitar I ever played, and the original DynaSonics just bubble over with tone, a kind of bouncey response - what a guitar!!!

While we're at it, here's a set of T-armonds that fit a Filter'tron rout, in my TVmaster. Bonus is that they are RWRP, so the middle position is humbucking:

I had a set of T-Armonds in my Thinlne Cabronita, those things sound incredible.
But I'm always exploring, so I now have a set of T90s in it.
TAs= just as you described, clear, bold, fat. Plain strings have a thickness to them, wound strings are piano-like. "Prettier" sounding than T90. Good, balanced mids.
T90= more mids, more output (breaks the amp up a little faster when you dig in), fat plain strings, wound strings a little less piano like but still "tight". "More aggressive" than TA. Very mids-forward.
