I have been meaning to post and comment on the Brute EQ. I bought one from jazzmus a couple of months ago and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. The workmanship is top-notch, very solidly built. The effect is subtle, not dramatic, but I found it to be a perfect tone sweetener. It is a permanent part of my signal chain now.

As others have said, jazzmus was wonderful to deal with and provided lots of updates and information. Cheers!

    Hi,

I was wondering if any of these pedals are still available for purchase - the slimmer version (122x66mm) Brute EQ that Jazzmus has produced?

I tried e-mailing through the (Jazz Guitar) website, but did not get a response. For some reason I can't send a PM. I am assuming because I am a new member?
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Johnny B.

Since the pedal is explicitly a pre-amp, I decided to play into an AB/Splitter box, sending one signal to the pedal, one to my MiniBrute. I took the pre-amp out from the MB2 and the output from the pedal directly into my A/D box. I set up the MB and Pedal as flat and basic as I could, adjusted until the input gain lights and levels seemed comparable on the box, and recorded it. It's the same old Jimmy Raney solo I've been using recently, except for the backing track I muted the rhythm guitar to help the guitar signals stand out.

Pedal is on the Left, MB2 preamp output on the Right. Remember it's the same playing with the signal split to each. You can switch between them all you want to compare the sound.

I'll tell you now, I'm impressed. I think the pedal and the MB2 are hard to distinguish at this point in the signal chain. This thing is a winner.

It’s been a while, but I was wondering could you compare a Polytone Brute to the Brute eq through the DV Mark? I’ve looked many hours, but there’s nothing that does a Polytone sound. I’ve looked at the forums for Helix, Two -Note and Ampli-Fire, nothing successful. Some of those model the creation of sounds by tubes so that does help either.
Really curious how much of the sound is pre amp and how much speaker/power amp. This pedal seems truly unique!

Ah, please unread my previous comment. Big THANK YOU! I’m buying one, just found your clip of the Polytone through the Quilter and that’s also very tasty! Totally bought me. This pedal is so extraordinarily unique…

Thanks for letting me know. I was thinking of tooling up for another clip. These days, though, I'm sort of into my Fender amps: Princeton Reverb Reissue and Tone Master Twin Reverb. Haven't played much else in a long time.

I must say after I Get Back and heard the Epi Casino through a Twin Reverb, then just out, it sounded superb. But at home I’m hearing fenderish through my little Yamaha all the time and especially with my solid guitar it gets a bit same same.

FWIW, I've been using Jazzmus' pedal for about three years now as my main signal chain for recording and performing. I no longer use one of my Polytone amps. Guitar/Polytone Pedal/Recording Board or Guitar/Polytone Pedal/PA Board.

The setup works great for all the stuff I am doing, these days. It's a great pedal.

    Thanks "Bro."

Anyone know if jazzmus sells PCBs? I'm a longtime DIYer and this seems well within my skill set.

PMing him as suggested, but just curious if everyone is buying only pedals, not parts.
