Im sure harmonics goes back to early guitar invention but Lenny might have first heard them on early Chet Atkins recordings.

That was a prototype built for Tal that he used almost exclusively for the rest of his career. It was sold by Rudy's a couple of years ago together with the rest of Tal's collection. It's now with a dealer in Paris.
i wish they had kept this design for the production run

Artificial harmonics have been used in the violin world for hundreds of years. I would think they had also been used on classical guitar long before the bebop era, although I have not looked into it.

Yes harmonics are in guitar literature way back. Which I forgot about when I first answered.
So please if any of you know the guitar faculty at Peabody geez Louise don’t tell them that I blew it!

The ending came kind of unexpected, I had not rehearsed it.

Harmonics start at around 1:22 in the 1940 version of Nuages.

there are many, many recorded versions of “Nuages”, and Django usually began, and or ended his solo with harmonics.

    Tal’s faster
I believe Tal’s first is on the Norgren 1956 album “Tal” on “Isn’t It Romantic”.
i could be wrong. There are some some single note bings at the end of a ballad or two in ‘55, not full solos.
My memory is a bit hazy on that timeframe, i was a 1952 issue)
