That motion sound is pretty darn cool. But yes- expensive. If you don't want to spend $500 on a vent, then $700 for the Motion Sound (essentially half a leslie) is probably not interesting to you either..... Most people are looking for either a $200-$300 pedal to do it (Rotochoir, LEX, used Rotosphere), OR..... they just get a leslie. I know leslie is making new ones, for guitar, these days..... $1200, fro an authentic leslie rig.... IF you're that "into" leslie. If you're NOT, one of the pedals will no doubt do you fine.

It's not simply a back and forth tremolo although some Uni-Vibe sims sound quite nice like the MXR and Drybell.
