A used PRS Spruce Hollowbody could be another good choice. Plenty of options out there.

    Try playing seated.

Drummers thrones can be had with backrests and are very comfortable.

Also, try a leg support like the classical players use, like an Ergo-Play.

i am using a yamaha aex500n right now you might find one used as they don't make them anymore. fairly light with a piezo in it and nylon strings. love it, has a great tone plugged in and great acoustics. neck is on the thin side but has that slotted classical guitar headstock

I play an ES339 which I find light enough.
My feeling is that the choice of strap and adjustment of it are important, too.
I got a better feeling with a wide leather strap.

Get a HArmony Rocket, either one or two pup and thin out the neck. It's a true hollowbody and weighs just over 4 lbs - and that DeARmond pup is just amazing !

Don't know what your price range is but Soloway Swans are great for fingerstyle, light, and extremely comfortable to play (IMO).

I also have these neck, back issues. I use a Yamaha silent guitar that has been modified with a Kent Armstrong jazz pickup (so it acts similar to the frameworks for 1/5 the price). It actually sounds pretty great. The other option i found is sitting down and using a strap that goes around the headstock and let the guitar rest on the chair or your leg, but don't have the weight on your back or shoulders. Check out wes Montgomery playing is L5. Using this technique allows for a heavier guitar. The other issue is the depth of the guitar, my arm around a wide body really hurts my shoulder so the thinner the body the better. The silent guitar is perfect but a solid body can work. I headed for another back surgery so protect your body!

Hello, I am new to this forum, I think my comment service best in this topic. I am looking for a small jazz guitar for a while now. I am a small person and often guitars are to big for me. I play almost 20 years and I mostely play a fender strat type because it fits my body well. I olso have a 335 type guitar: a Italia Torino, that is a bit too big for me but it works for some songs and recordings. I mostely write a record songs for bands and for myself at home.

Some mounths ago, i picked up a Paramount Little Wing Tiger Maple-, a resonator to write a song on. That guitar is small, yes it s a acoustic guitar but my question is as follows:

That guitar is small and fits my body perfectly. Does somebody knows a simular shape guitar that is a electric guitar?

Ps: the guitar looks more cool in real life

    Thanks my jazz friends!

Since you are comfortable with a Strat neck & scale length, and not hung up on guitar build- try a basswood Tele? I saw a ‘JV modified’ model that looked pretty cheap and accessible and nice on the eyes. A soft golden colour. More relevant to your needs- the basswood made it light. Teles have been used to play jazz since day dot.

I’m surprised that no one has brought up the fact that laminated guitars are heavier than those with the same dimensions made of carved solid wood. So if you want an archtop, a solid 16 will generally be about 2 pounds lighter than a laminated 16 from the same maker.

You might also consider a parlor guitar like one of the Larrivees. They play and sound great, they’re beautifully made, and they’re both small and light with substantial necks.

I have both EPI ES-339 Pro and Casino Coupe. The latter is extremely light and capable of great jazz tones, even with a light set of roundwounds. Weighs 2.65 kg/ 6.1 lbs with strap.

Depends on your budget. I have the same problem re back pain - my solutions are an Epiphone Casino, and a Gretsch G5122. The Epiphone comes with P90 pickups, which I like but can of course be swapped if you prefer a humbucker. It comes in various models, from budget price right up into the thousands. The Gretsch is no longer made, and required some modding - removal of the Bigsby plus a set of TV Jones pickups, and is now my main instrument.

I have a 339,335,H575 , H535 all relatively light , but the lightest and best sounding/ playing is my PRS Hollowbody II.

For Jazz the HB I or Archtop , or if you can find them an SC-J is a nice warm sounding alternative.

I saw a nice one recently for a decent price. lightweight Jazz guitar recommendations-aeb4eae75lwiaqynfq6z-jpg
