I want to tune my classical BEADFB. My plan is to buy a low B string and then use a standard string set one string higher so that my 5th string is an E using an E string etc.

It seems the tension will be all the same except the low B. Will that be enough tension to have much affect on my guitar?

It will affect your guitar. How much it will change things is impossible to say on a forum. It probably won't destroy your guitar to try it out. If it has a truss rod you'll likely be within the range of adjustments. I don't know about intonation, that might get messed up being a fixed bridge... and the nut will need adjustments so the strings fit. Then if you don't like it you'll need to buy a replacement nut.

Just thoughts, mostly I think you should try it. A nut and a truss rod adjustment is a small price to pay.

Aquila makes a low A set that supposedly requires no adjustments to the guitar...might be something to look into.

The idea of low A makes me glad.
