I'm in the market for a reverb pedal and the options have changed a lot. I'm curious who's using what. I'm considering a UA Evermore but I'm open to other ideas. I'd like to keep it under $200 cdn if possible

I'm a big believer in and longtime user of the Earthquake Systems Dispatch Master. The reverb is quite good and it also has delay that I use for 'Chet' stuff - you can use either one by itself or combine the two. About $170 USD at Sweetwater but you should be able to find a used for for less. A Canadian steel guitar player friend and HOF'er up that way (Brian Ostrum) recommended it and I've really enjoyed it.

What type of reverb are you interested in, and what application? UA is a company mostly about amp emulations and plugins, and I've read quite a few complaints of quality issues with their pedals. They only offer a one year guarantee.
There seems to be a range of pedals specializing in spring reverb (in my opinion the hardest type to get right), then the long hall/plate reverbs, then the shimmer ones.
I'm kind of easy on the reverb pedals I use, cause I only use them live when playing no reverb amps, so the bar is pretty low. I have a hardwire RV-7 reverb that I bought because it had a Lexicon algorithm, sounded really great and reminded me of all the lexicon rack units I've had in the past, also was very cheap when new (but now it seems to be a bad monkey type of thing they cost a lot).
Also have a Hof 2 mini that I basically bought because it's tiny, good sounding for hall/plate reverbs, but weak on shimmers and bad at spring ones.
The strymons are the best I've played, as much as I consider the company overpriced. I would only buy them if my music was ambient and very reverb heavy.Last edited by Alter; 11-24-2024 at 02:27 AM.

The Rv7 was my favorite reverb pedal that I've owned but I was pretty shocked to see them selling used here for $400 cdn. That's why I was considering an evermore. It's also an Eventide based pedal and sells for $180 can.

Been interested myself in a Mad Professor silver spring. Not really spring or plate but something between the two- bit more unique than the typical standards. And simple. No software updates necessary.

The simplest option would be a TC Electronics Hall of Fame II.
I have the UA Evermore, but I use it for gigantic ambient verbs, not exactly subtle jazz territory…

What i like best about the Hall of Fame II is that you can setup 3 reverbs, so one amplike for regular playing, one more ambient hall/plate type for acoustic or generally more ambient guitar, and one shimmer/special effects type for when you want to really focus on the reverb and use it to create soundscapes. So it's extremely practical and gig friendly. But other more specialized ones like the Topanga or the Mad Professor do sound better on their specific type of reverb.
It is difficult to form an opinion about a reverb pedal without playing it, because what makes or brakes them is not so much the sound (most current ones sound good), but the response and the dynamics, the compression etc and that's very difficult to come through on video.
Hopefully the gods of reverb will put a nice tube standalone reverb in my way sometime in the future...!!
Although tube reverb land is maybe the ultimate "they don't make them like they used to" land..

I like the UA Golden Reverberator but I hate how much space it takes.
I think Neunaber has the best hall algos available. I use the Wet v5 on one of my boards, sounds amazing and can be very subtle.
The topanga is a great spring type reverb.
I have yet to ever try the dispatch master. I know a lot of pros use it but these are the pros I usually associate with a much more wet tone than I like. I have never liked delay and also find it gets in my way and gets muddy too fast. But I admit I may be bad at using it.

I use a Marshall Reflector. Cheap and cheerful.

Meris Mercury 7 pretty much beats all IMO save for maybe the Specular Tempus in the shimmer realm and the Fender tube/spring tank for basic thick, lush, reverb.

I also use the TC Hall Of Fame. Some of its stock reverbs sound okay for my taste. There's an option to download custom presets from a wide range of Artists and store 3 of them. I stored the Robben Ford, Albert Lee and Adam Holzman versions on mine, use the Robben Ford preset almost exclusively as it sounds perfect for my ears.

I needed a cheap small verb for one gig so I bought this. After careful adjustment, it turns out I like it and kept it.

Jim, I also would go with the T.C.Mini Reverb pedal. Especially given the style guitar you play. Most of those expensive pedals are aimed at Ambient type of playing.

DHL Happened. The delivery went completely sideways for no apparent reason. After three days of being on the truck for delivery without a single delivery attempt, I gave up and told them to just return it to Sweetwater. I use the HOF Mini. It's small, light, and relatively inexpensive, and it's good enough for me. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of patches available on the website, available for installation via a smartphone app, or via computer with a mini-USB cable. I've never bothered to use a USB cable, because it's so easy to just flash the patches to the pedal wirelessly. The only downside I've found to the HOF Mini is that it's too small to hold a 9V battery, so an external power supply is necessary. I have some 9V battery boxes which work well, so I just put a battery in the box and plug it in to the pedal. The pedal and battery box are still smaller than the full-size pedal, and lighter.

The UAFX Evermore and Heavenly are only $14 more than the TC Mini in Canada. I've owned both the Mini and the full sized HOF in the past. I thought they were OK but I wasn't really thrilled. I've been working with some really nice reverb plugins for a few years and I'd really like something that I can get closer to that sound in a pedal. The problem I have is that regardless of what the pedals are intended for, the video demos of almost all of these pedals are aimed at Ambient playing so all I get to hear is way over the top examples of what they can do. I know that a lot of what these pedals offer are going to be features that I'll never use but if I can get the more subtle sounds I'm after I don't really care. I think what I'd really like is the Tal Reverb II plugin in a pedal for $179 CDN. Originally Posted by jads57

I guess I’m just not that particular about reverbs. But if I remember the TC. HOF mini can have different reverbs by just using your APP on your device. I believe you just aim it at your pickup and it transmits it.

I think at this point more information is required. What is your use case? Are you looking for spring, plate, hall? In front of the amp, in an fx loop or post production? Do you want to “hear” the verb or just add a sense of space? etc.

I lean more towards plate and/or hall. It is being paired with an Empress ParaEQ MKii that I'm planning to use as a pre-amp in front of a small personal PA. I want to hear the verb but not overwhelmingly. Originally Posted by D.G.

Hmm. Under 2 bills is gonna be tough for a high end verb. For the UA pedals I’d look to the Heavenly more than the Evermore.
