All the newer D angelicos i've played have been good guitars. My one concern would be the guitar sounding thin, without much low mids and having too much treble, which is the bet most guitars have to win to sound good. Also D angelicos cost much lower when used, so i would try to buy it used. This one looks super interesting, being a thin full hollow body with a logical price.

I tried the semi hollow from this company.
They were very interesting, but I already had an Ibanez AS-200.. :-)

That Swatch looks kind of cool though. When I was briefly interested in one of the new D'A semi-hollows, which I thought looked really neat and well appointed, a couple of years ago, they seemed a bit overpriced but suddenly dropped in price considerably at some local retailers - making them a potential bargain.

It does, but it's still kind of a lukewarm imitation of the real deal, for a price I'm not willing to put down (I found a much better "homage" moon watch for less money, though also with a quartz movement).
Not a bad analog actually, I think, hand-built mechanical calibre vs. industrial quartz movement for "hand-carved acoustic guitar" vs. factory-build laminate e-guitar.

I have a D'Angelico EX SS. I put P Rails in it which are great fun but if I were doing it over I would put some version of a Gibson 57 Humbucker. I think the newer ones are sold with pretty good pickups from the factory.

Good:
- Workmanship and materials. It's surprisingly well made and finished.
- Looks. Mine is clear black and it's a very nice looking guitar.
- Neck/frets. Frets were right size and perfectly installed. Really like the neck profile. Not too thin but not noticeably fat. I find many guitar necks too skinny.

Not great:
- I think it does sound a bit thin in the lower mids but I'm comparing it to much more expensive guitars. Mine has the small block under the bridge which I prefer.
- Don't care about the use of the D'Angelico name for marketing (welcome to the world) but could do without the over the top headstock.

Would I buy it again? Depends on price since I really prefer a full size archtop. But if I had an application and at the price of the used ones I see, certainly. It's a steal at those prices.

I tried one at GC a couple months ago and almost bought it on the spot. For the money I can’t imagine a better option.

I played the Premier SS last year and I was quite impressed of how good it sounded. I think Kurt Rosenwinkel had a signature model SS Premier..

Wait a minute, I have one of those watches! The grey one. It was fairly inexpensive, I like it a lot! But I get that it's not a real Speedmaster, and I have a few real "analog" watches. I'm definitely not willing to throw down for a real one, I only have room in my life for one expensive hobby- guess what that is?
